Congratulations to Laura Kehoe (5 Beech) and Rachael Dee (5 Pine) who received their Pope John Paul II awards in the Cathedral in Enniscorthy last night. Laura achieved a gold award and Rachael received a bronze award for taking part in their parish and social activities.
The Pope John Paul II Award was created to commemorate the late Pope John Paul II who was so committed to young people and who had such belief and confidence in them. Thus, the JPII Award is committed to helping young people enhance their spiritual, physical, emotional and social development through participation in school, parish and community activities. As well as the feeling of personal achievement that a participant will gain from taking part in the award, participation helps demonstrate the young person’s commitment to a task and goal.
Applications are still available for anyone interested this year, please message Ms. Redmond for more information.

The Maynooth University Entrance Scholarship Ceremony took place on Wednesday, 25th October in the new TSI Building.
The Entrance Scholarship is awarded to year one students who achieved 575 points or more in their Leaving Certificate. There were nineteen different counties across Ireland represented, as well as Germany and Spain.
Congratulations to Aoife Stafford who was one of the seventy-two recipients on the night. Aoife is studying primary teaching.
In addition to achieving an excellent Leaving Cert., Aoife had a very busy sixth year. She was a Meitheal Leader, she acted as presenter for our school’s annual “Xmas Factor”, she gave an exceptional speech, on behalf of her year group, at the 6th Graduation Ceremony, she continued to play football and all the while she was studying for her Leaving Cert.
President of Maynooth University, Professor Eeva Leinonen, spoke to the scholars, their parents and school personnel present. She acknowledged that it takes a community to support these young students thus far. She stressed the importance of academic achievement while in university. However, she also pointed out that there are many dimensions to a university experience. She encouraged students to see university as a broad experience and while it is important to study it is essential to embrace university life fully. Finally she asked the young scholars to, “Look for your future self and see your experience here in Maynooth as a stepping stone to the future”.
The strength of inter-schools show jumping was very evident in Barnadown Equestrian Centre on Sunday, 15th October with fifty-three teams competing in the open, novice and primary competitions.
Coláiste Bhríde, Carnew was delighted to host this leg of the Equestrian Inter-schools’ League.
Throughout the day the three show jumping arenas were action packed.
Coláiste Bhríde had one team in the Open competition and one in the Novice. While both teams jumped remarkably well they were just outside qualification for the jump off.
The TRI Equestrian Open 1m Individual competition was won by Amber Farrell from Gorey Community School. Second place went to Hannah O’Neill from Coláiste Bhríde Carnew. The TRI Equestrian Premier 1.10m individual qualifier demonstrated talented jumping and determination and Sophie Wilson was placed in 5th position.
We would like to thank all our sponsors for their support on the day. Thank you to our parents, students and staff who helped make the day the success it was. Thank you to Barnadown Equestrian, our course builder and judges.
We look forward to the rest of the jumping season. We wish our teams and our individual competitors all the very best.
