The Rediscovery Centre is the National Centre for the Circular Economy in Ireland. A creative movement connecting people, ideas and resources to support greener low-carbon living. As the National Centre for the Circular Economy, we bring together the skills and expertise of artists, scientists, designers and craftspeople united in a common purpose of sustainability. The circular economy is an economic system aimed at minimising waste at all stages of the economic cycle and making the most of our resources by keeping them in circulation for longer. This approach maximises the value of resources and is in contrast to the traditional linear economy, which has a ‘take, make, dispose’ model of production. The Rediscovery Centre is located in the repurposed Boiler House in Ballymun. The building has undergone a major green revamp and it is now a state of the art facility with a focus on sustainability and reuse. What we learned: They use 80% solar energy. They always reuse things like making the tables from hospital beds. They made guitars from old wardrobes. The flower pots were made from washing machine drums. Ms. Elliott

On Friday, French and Irish students were together for a trip to Nantes, where they took part in a " mystery game" and a food degustation. Later the headed back to Chateau for their last day with their families, they all experienced some down time with their host families. Back to Carnew on Sunday at lunchtime meant a very early start, but the excitement of going home made the journey back much easier. Another very successful and life-time memory filled French exchange. Ms Lavelle Photos have been uploaded to the app Gallery and school website

TY Law Trip to the Criminal Courts of Justice Twenty-two of our Transition Year students had the opportunity to visit the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin. The aim of the trip was to provide students with an understanding and insight into the Irish Courts System. On the day, students were offered the opportunity to partake in a mock trial, facilitated by a barrister of the Courts Service. This allowed them to fulfill various court roles including barristers, solicitors, witnesses and members of the jury. In addition, our students and teachers were fortunate enough to be afforded the chance to sit in on actual court proceedings, including sentencing proceedings and a murder trial.

The senior camogie team defeated PDLS Bagenelstown on Monday in what turned out to be their final group game of season after Grennan College Thomastown gave a walk over in the final game due to be played Wednesday. Coláiste Bhríde were in control the whole way through on what was a difficult day for camogie on a cold windy day. They lead 1-6 to 0-2 at half time. Many substitutes were made during the course of the second half and the Carnew performance did not weaken at all. The girls ran out 3-8 to 0-2 winners leaving them top of the group in both Senior. With regards to senior this is an achievement in itself as the majority of the panel also are young enough for junior.

CB Carnew 8-2 Creagh College The Carnew Girls Soccer team scored a big win in their final game of 2019, scoring 8 goals in an impressive performance against Creagh College. The girls knew that a big win today would all but guarantee qualification to the regional Wicklow/Wexford final, and they went about their task diligently. Laci-Jane Shannon set the tone early, looking for every opportunity to take on her full back and proving a nightmare for the Creagh defence to deal with. She was ably assisted in this by Zoe Katus and Hannah Redmond, whose strong running created numerous opportunities for the girls. Laci-Jane opened the scoring with a smart finish after cutting inside in the box, before Zoe adder a second. A lapse in concentration in the defence led to Creagh getting one back, but two more from Laci-Jane before halftime ensured Carnew went into the break with a healthy lead. The second half gave opportunities for all of the girls to get time on the pitch, and special mention must go to the three first year players Anna Tomkins, Sheana Carroll and Molly Gregan. Despite the jump in age group, all three were excellent and fitted seamlessly into the team. Molly and Anna were dominant in the tackle and Sheana scored a top class goal in the second half, as well as rattling the crossbar. Further goals from Laci-Jane, an own goal and Lucy Kemple rounded off the scoring, leaving the girls with a resounding win. The girls combined some top class attacking play with their usual resilience in defence today, with Eimear O’Brien and Lucy Kemple providing the platform for the forwards to do their work. However, the Player of the Match today could only be one person. Laci-Jane Shannon was in untouchable form today, scoring an incredible four goals as well as providing a focal point for all of the teams attacking play. A fantastic performance from a top class young player. We want to thank Creagh for a great game and wish them well in their future games.

On Tuesday, our development education students made their way to Maynooth University as part of our partnership in development education. The students led a workshop which aimed to promote development education and provide student teachers with tools that they could bring back to their own classrooms. Our students designed and led workshops which taught two very active lessons that asked participants to examine their privilege and biases. We also examined how families in Sub Saharan Africa face food food insecurity daily.
Carnew Girls through to Leinster Cup Semi Final

Colaiste Bhride Carnew 1-1 Scoil Mhuire Trim (3-2 AET) The Carnew Girls Junior Soccer team qualified for the Leinster Cup semi final after a penalty shoot out win vs Scoil Mhuire Trim. The girls knew they would be facing a dangerous team today who had the potential to score a lot of goals, and as a result it was a tense, evenly contested match. Both teams were full of running in the opening period and there was little to separate them. Carnew had the edge physically but the Trim side had many good players and looked dangerous when given space. Carnew took the lead mid way though the first half when some excellent interplay between Laci-Jane Shannon and Zoe Katus led to a through ball to Hannah Redmond. Hannah duly beat her defender, turned smartly in the box and finished low past the keeper. The girls looked confident but towards the end of the first half concentration started to drop. The equalizer came through arguably fortuitous circumstances, when a corner went straight in at the near post. Despite this, Trim could have easily found themselves ahead at half time and looked the stronger side going into the break. The second half was a tight, scrappy affair. Neither side were pulling off combinations the way they wanted and only for the Trojan work put in by Lucy Kemple and Zoe Katus in the centre of midfield, Carnew could have found themselves under a lot of pressure. Ultimately it finished even and, after extra time was unable to separate them, the game went to penalties. As usual with a penalty shootout, it takes a lot of courage to step up and take the long walk from halfway. The five carnew penalty takers, as well as keeper Shona Byrne, should take great credit for the steel nerves they showed throughout. After each team had taken five penalties, the final Trim penalty was missed, sending Carnew to the semi final. Today was a game of small margins, and the girls had to go the extra mile to dig out the win. There were many Carnew ladies who did just that today, but Player of the Match went to Lucy Kemple. At half time, when Trim looked to be taking control, Lucy took it upon herself to take on their most dangerous player and by keeping her quiet, allowed Carnew to take control of the game back. She almost won the game for Carnew with a late free kick and had ice in her veins during the shootout, scoring her penalty with ease. A super performance from Lucy, reflective of the effort the entire team put in. Carnew now face their second Leinster cup semi final in as many years, and will look to go one step further this year. We want to thank Scoil Mhuire Trim for an excellent game, and wish them well in their future games.
