Colaiste Bhride Carnew 1-1 Scoil Mhuire Trim (3-2 AET) The Carnew Girls Junior Soccer team qualified for the Leinster Cup semi final after a penalty shoot out win vs Scoil Mhuire Trim. The girls knew they would be facing a dangerous team today who had the potential to score a lot of goals, and as a result it was a tense, evenly contested match. Both teams were full of running in the opening period and there was little to separate them. Carnew had the edge physically but the Trim side had many good players and looked dangerous when given space. Carnew took the lead mid way though the first half when some excellent interplay between Laci-Jane Shannon and Zoe Katus led to a through ball to Hannah Redmond. Hannah duly beat her defender, turned smartly in the box and finished low past the keeper. The girls looked confident but towards the end of the first half concentration started to drop. The equalizer came through arguably fortuitous circumstances, when a corner went straight in at the near post. Despite this, Trim could have easily found themselves ahead at half time and looked the stronger side going into the break. The second half was a tight, scrappy affair. Neither side were pulling off combinations the way they wanted and only for the Trojan work put in by Lucy Kemple and Zoe Katus in the centre of midfield, Carnew could have found themselves under a lot of pressure. Ultimately it finished even and, after extra time was unable to separate them, the game went to penalties. As usual with a penalty shootout, it takes a lot of courage to step up and take the long walk from halfway. The five carnew penalty takers, as well as keeper Shona Byrne, should take great credit for the steel nerves they showed throughout. After each team had taken five penalties, the final Trim penalty was missed, sending Carnew to the semi final. Today was a game of small margins, and the girls had to go the extra mile to dig out the win. There were many Carnew ladies who did just that today, but Player of the Match went to Lucy Kemple. At half time, when Trim looked to be taking control, Lucy took it upon herself to take on their most dangerous player and by keeping her quiet, allowed Carnew to take control of the game back. She almost won the game for Carnew with a late free kick and had ice in her veins during the shootout, scoring her penalty with ease. A super performance from Lucy, reflective of the effort the entire team put in. Carnew now face their second Leinster cup semi final in as many years, and will look to go one step further this year. We want to thank Scoil Mhuire Trim for an excellent game, and wish them well in their future games.

The girls Junior team advanced to the Leinster semi final following a hard fought win over Heywood CS on Tuesday December 3rd. This game was played on a fine astro pitch and the surface ensured the pace of the game was quick for this time of the year. Colaiste Bhride adapted to the surface very well early on and were utterly dominant in the first 20 minutes as they opened up a 2-8 to 0-1 lead. In fact but for some wayward shooting the game should have been well and truly over at this stage. Having made some switches the home side worked their way back into the game and kicked four answers points to leave 9 points between the sides at half time. The Colaiste Bhride girls knew that the confidence of their opponents was up and that a good start to the second half was important. A well worked team goal stretched our lead to 12 points and though the home team responded with a penalty soon after, the hard working Carnew girls kept working to ensure an 8 point win on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-10. Next up is a Leinster Semi final before the Christmas holidays.

Our second year students accompanied by their pastoral care team travelled to Movies at Dundrum on Monday morning, to their own private screening of a festive film ‘Last Christmas’. The movie is a romantic comedy, which tells the story of Kate, who works as an elf at a Christmas shop that sells ornaments all year round. While the film was lighthearted it also addressed contemporary issues such as homelessness and inclusivity. The students enjoyed the movie and the opportunity to have their lunch together, as well as having some time for retail therapy.

A small army of over one hundred and seventy excited first years, along with their Meitheal leaders and pastoral care team left Coláiste Bhríde early on Friday morning Dublin bound for their Christmas Trip. This was one of the biggest groups ever to undertake a trip of this type. First was a visit to this year's Christmas Panto, Aladdin, in the Gaiety Theatre, where the group almost bought the theatre out of popcorn! Afterwards, they made their way to Dundrum Shopping Centre for some early Christmas shopping, and badly needed food. Well done to all first years for their behaviour and punctuality yesterday, and we now look forward to organising the summer trip!I
School Golf Teams update

Our school golfers have been busy of late, despite the poor weather conditions. Having performed brilliantly in Delgany golf club in October our junior team of Larry Kinsella, Kasey Cullen and Dan Redmond qualified for the the final 12 in Leinster. This competition was played in Lucan golf club on Nov 19th. All three players performed well on the day, however missed out on an all Ireland spot by just 5 points. Our senior side faced two qualifiers in the Leinster match play in November. First up was a home tie against Avondale CS played in Coolattin golf club. Avondale has been our conquerors in last year’s Leinster quarter final by the minimum margin of 1up after 36 holes so we knew we were in for another close match once again! And so it proved as for the second year in a row, just one hole separated the two sides. Thankfully it was the Carnew side of John and Owen Young and Cormac and Dan Redmond who came out on top! Up next was an away tie with Arklow CBS. This game proved to be a more comfortable match as the two pairs won 5up and 6up to secure progression from the group. Next up we have a Leinster knock out game to be played in January. Well done to the lads, many thanks to Coolattin Golf Club for hosting our home games and a huge thanks to the parents and grandparents who have provided transport to and from these matches.

Reptile Zoo to Colaiste Bhride Carnew To celebrate Science Week the Science department have arranged for National Reptile Zoo to visit us in Colaiste Bhride Carnew. All first years had a one hour lecture with a trained profession with a variety of different reptiles. They had the opportunity to handle a range of reptiles such as boa constrictors, Colombian rainbow boa, Frill Dragons, tarantulas, turtles and tortoises. The Reptile Zoo to You provides a unique learning experience with lots of interesting relevant facts which is still fondly remembered by pupils for many years after.
