The Jnr Rugby squad took part in the South Leinster Development Blitz today at Arklow Rugby Club. The purpose of this blitz was to decide teams for the Development Cup and the Development shield. With 5 teams attending, East Glendalough, Arklow, Creagh, Bridgetown and ourselves, competition was strong but very even and all matches being won or lost by narrow margins or conversions. The top two teams went forward to the Cup, third and forth to the Shield and fifth calling an end to their season. Carnew fought hard being lead by example form our Cpt. Billy Molloy but unfortunately our lack of experience in some key positions meant that we missed qualified for the Cup but now go forward to the Shield. We look forward to meeting Creagh again in this competition. Well done to all involved, we grow in confidence and experience with every game.

CB Carnew 6-0 Kishoge CC The U17 Girls Soccer Team began their season with an impressive win today, putting 6 goals past Kishoge CC on a wet day in Leixlip. Despite a long journey, the girls started strong and opened the scoring with a top class finish from Anna Lalor. Zoe Katus and Lucy Kemple were dominant in midfield, preventing Kishoge from creating any attacking opportunities and three further goals from Laci-Jane Shannon, Laura Ivers and Zoe Katus made it 4-0 at half time. In the second half the girls continued to push on. The defence had little to do today but when called upon, Danielle Lambe and Caitlin Hughes were excellent in the tackle and kept the momentum with Carnew. An outstanding solo effort from Caoimhe Murphy made it 5-0 before Lucy Kemple completed the scoring in the final minutes. Overall the girls were extremely impressive today, with 6 different goal scorers and a clean sheet demonstrating strength in both attack and defence. Player of the Match went to Zoe Katus, who ran the game from midfield as well as scoring an excellent goal. The girls now move on in the Leinster Cup and will play St. Joseph’s, Rochfortbridge in the next round.

2 teams of First Years travelled to Ballinakill on Thursday to represent the school in the Wicklow Super 7s Blitz Team 1 proved to be far too strong for their opposition in all 3 of their group games, remarkably getting through all the group without conceding a single score. Rosealice Byrne and Amber Walsh led the team in their game against East Glendalough, scoring an incredible 5-6 between them. The scoring continued in the 2nd game with Rosealice bagging 2-5 and with scores coming from Thomasina, Amber, Isabelle and Keeva we came out on top over Glenart College. The final group game against DCW saw 7 different girls get onto the scoresheet with Anna Tompkins and Isabelle Doyle joining the scoring in this game. Team 2 Also won all of their groups games. In their first game vs CCA Kilcoole the girls of off to a good start with goals from Katie Wafer and Kieanna Murphy and a minor from Tara Doran giving us an early leads. Goals dried up in the second half but the girls pulled through with a well deserved win. Game 2 was a thriller against St Mary's Arklow. Despite being 9 points down at half time the team turned the game around in the second half. Some crucial saves from Julie Rawson and goals from Tara, Katie, Kieanna and Ciara Byrne meant that we pulled through 5-1 to 3-5 in the end. The final group was a one sided affair for the CB girls. A hat-trick of goals from Jessica Murphy, 2 for Rachael Dee as well as goals for Ciara and Ava O'Keefe meant that we were safely through to a semi final. In the semis both teams faced opposition from St Kevin's Dunlavin. Team 1 faced a very Strong St Kevin's side, despite a well taken goal from Anna and a point from Rosealice, ultimately they couldn't bridge the gap that opened in the 2nd half. Team 2 got an early lead in their semi final through a Katie Wafer goal. Some rock solid defending from Ava, Aisling Fleming and Aime Sharry meant that the determined Dunlavin side couldn't get in for any goals. They progressed to face St Kevin's other side in the final. The final was a highly competitive game with Carnew down by just 1 point at half time thanks to a Jessica Murphy goal. However the opposition took their points well in the second half with a strong breeze. Resulting in a win for St Kevin's in the end. A great day was had by all 16 teams that travelled to Ballinakill and our girls did us extremely proud on the day.

Victory for Senior Camogie Team v Callan CS

Coláiste Bhríde 4-14 St Bridget’s Callan 4-5 Following a fine win from the junior camogie team on Monday, the senior side followed suit yesterday with a 9 point victory away to a very skillful and athletic Callan side. The Carnew girls dominated the opening 20 minutes to the point of Callan hardly exiting their own half of the field, resulting in a 9 point Carnew lead. Then a sudden drop in work-rate allowed Callan to start feeding their own potent forward line with a greater supply of ball, scoring 2-2 in this period resulting in Carnew only leading by the minimum at half time. The girls regrouped and refocused on the task at hand during the half time break. The work-rate rose again but Callan were unwilling to give in and defended well against a strong Carnew siege on their goal. Their defense eventually failed in the final 10 minutes with Carnew adding some fine scores from play and frees. In all this was another fine win from a Carnew Camogie side where they not a only showed how well they can hurl with the ball in hand but also showed a huge amount of character. Well done to all.
