Try scorers on the day were Josh Kinsella, JJ Kinsella O’Neil and Gavin Murray. Conversion by Joe Conroy. Girls Senior Soccer: Colaiste Bhride Carnew 2-0 Gorey Community School

The Senior Girls Soccer Team started their league campaign today, scoring a big win against a very good GCS team. The game was played on a windy day in Carnew and the conditions played a large part in the opening stages, with the wind in particular effecting the pace of the game. Carnew were put under pressure from the beginning with some of the Gorey forward players demonstrating excellent ball skills. However, the girls weathered the storm and went 1-0 up when a Lucy Kemple corner was turned in smartly by Maude Robinson Greene. The defence was starting to get a hold on things at this stage, and some excellent tackles from Danielle Lambe kept Carnew in the game until she was forced off with a bad knee injury. The team had to reorganize after losing her but made it to half time at 1-0. In the second half the girls began to control proceeding more. The introduction of Anna Lalor at half time was central to this as she tormented the full back and forced Gorey to play much deeper. Zoe Katus moved to the centre and was instrumental in the second goal, putting in good work and allowing Captain Becky Connaughton to slot the ball into the corner. The game was played at a frantic pace at times but the girls held onto their lead, with Keelin Stafford and Eimear O’Brien making some crucial tackles when called upon and Carnew perhaps a little unlucky not to add to their lead, as the keeper saved smartly from both Lalor and Katus. The girls faced a big test today as Gorey were a well organized and skillful team, but Carnew managed to come out on top. Player of the Match went to centre back Eimear O’Brien, who was commanding throughout and who nearly sent the ball back to Gorey with a header in the second half. We want to thank GCS for an excellent game and wish them luck in their future games.

An excellent weekend in Wexford equestrian centre last weekend (28/10) for Colaiste Bhríde students. 4 teams departed for Wexford early Sunday morning last. Three novice teams produced superb rounds of jumping to secure all 3 teams a place in the jump off. CB novice teams finished 3rd, 5th and 6th. The open team had an excellent experience but were unfortunately to remain outside the ribbons. It was a fantastic experience for all. Well done to all who travelled and faced the rain during their midterm! Thanks to Loreto Wexford and Wexford Equestrian for hosting an excellently run event.

The Jnr Rugby squad took part in the South Leinster Development Blitz today at Arklow Rugby Club. The purpose of this blitz was to decide teams for the Development Cup and the Development shield. With 5 teams attending, East Glendalough, Arklow, Creagh, Bridgetown and ourselves, competition was strong but very even and all matches being won or lost by narrow margins or conversions. The top two teams went forward to the Cup, third and forth to the Shield and fifth calling an end to their season. Carnew fought hard being lead by example form our Cpt. Billy Molloy but unfortunately our lack of experience in some key positions meant that we missed qualified for the Cup but now go forward to the Shield. We look forward to meeting Creagh again in this competition. Well done to all involved, we grow in confidence and experience with every game.
