SciFest@College WIT
02 May 2019
Eighteen transition year students travelled to the WIT Arena to participate in SciFest@College competition. SciFest is a platform to facilitate and motivate the development of STEM skills in a inclusive and dynamic environment. All of the eight projects were very popular with the general public and the judges on the day. Well done to Conor McInerney and Ross O’Loughlin who were presented with The Innovation in Scientific Methodology Award for their project titled “How does breathing rate affect your swim time and a comparison of the lung capacity of swimmers to non swimmers”. Their results confirmed their hypothesis that more swim strokes per breath will increase your swimming times and that swimmers have a greater lung capacity than non swimmers. Ross and Conor are both recommending that people with asthma should take up swimming to help reduce asthma symptoms.
