First Year Girls Hockey

We had two first teams in action today away to Villiers in Limerick. The first game saw us with dominant possession and were rewarded with an early goal by Jodi Wood. Maia McCourt was running the midfield with her powerful dribbling and excellent distribution of the ball. Our goal keeper Niamh Hutchinson had little to do with Amy McCarthy and Ciara Quin rock solid at the back. Eventually we found the back of the net again in the 2nd quarter through Eva Johnston. Our girls controlled the second half and nearly found the net another two times. The second game saw us spend the entire first quarter in the opposition’s circle. Some excellent attacking play by all of the team saw us break the deadlock with an excellent Melissa Shorten goal. Defensively again we were very solid with Judy Barrett and Keisha Murphy leading from the back. Ruth Fair, Maebh O’ Donovan and Alice Barrett were causing the opposition all sorts of problems with their skilful play. Overall a very dominant performance by our girls saw us score another four goals before the end with Fuchsia Sutton scoring twice. Well done to all!
