Munster Athletics Championships Success

A team of 17 students from Form 1 to 6 participated in today's Munster Schools competition in CIT. Disciplines ranged from shot putt, sprinting, long distance and discus. The team performed extremely well with 13 medals going to Bandon Grammar students. The Minor Boys relay team consisting of Rory O Callaghan, Jonah Dalton, Karl O Regan and Sam Dale finished 3rd in their 4X100m with a time of 54.64.  Rory also competed in the long jump and finished 5th.  Sophie Marry finished 3rd in the Junior triple jump with a very impressive jump of 8.64 In the Junior Boys shot putt Mergan McLaughlin threw the 4kg shot with a distance of 10.82 to finish in 3rd place.  The intermediate girls dominated their events today. Lauren McCourt finished 1st in her 200m and 3rd in the 100m. Stacey Komolafe showed grit and determination to finish 3rd in her 300m hurdles and 2nd in the 300m flat. This success was then capped with a truly epic performance in their 4X100m relay. Lauren and Stacey with Madison Daly and Ciara Lynch eclipsed the field winning with a time of 50.67. Natalia Sabate Guerroro continued to show progress with her 2nd place finish in the walk. It cannot go unmentioned the work Natalia has put in for this race. From only taking up the sport 3 months ago to qualifying for the All Irelands is a fantastic achievement, We hope to see her continue when she returns to Spain. Ruairi Falvey competed in the boys Intermediate 800m and 1,500m but fell short in what were two very fast races.  Kasimir Von Klitzing proved once again what a talent he has for distance running with a 2nd place performance at the grueling 1,500m steeplechase.  Our Seniors  were fantastic in their in disciplines today. A special mention to Laura Nicholson who ran her 3000m in a Champion Best Performance of 9.47. Aisling Cassidy produced an amazing performance to win the triple jump with a distance of 11.32 (1cm off the record) and then finished 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 5.38. James Kirkby fell just short of the medals in the discuss finishing 4th with a throw of 35.36 A special thank you to Mr. O'Reilly and Liz Coomey who have put in a tremendous amount of work with our athletes. The All Irelands will be held on June 2nd in Tullamore.
