Our TY students gave a warm welcome to their Belgian exchange partners on Sunday afternoon. Some students even had the chance to attend an exciting rugby match – an unforgettable experience! They are spending 5 days in Kilcullen exploring the theme of European values with a trip planned to Europe House and Dáil Éireann later in the week.
This morning, they spent the day at school, sharing insights about the cultural differences at the heart of our European project before exploring the our local heritage with a visit to Old Kilcullen. The students are really looking forward to seeing their exchange partners perform on stage in the school’s production of Grease on Wednesday night – it's sure to be a highlight of the visit!
TY students had a fantastic day out on Wednesday, at the Irish Film Institute in Dublin. They were accompanied by Ms. Dredge and Ms. O’Sullivan. The day was specifically tailored for students interested in the new Drama, Film and Theatre Studies, Leaving Certificate subject. It was an action packed informative day.
It commenced with a viewing of the TV series ’Video Nasty’. This was followed by a question and answer session with the cast and creative team. It was fascinating to discover how a creative project developed from a kernel idea to a completed project on screen. The collaboration between the script writer, director, actors, music coordinator, costume designer etc was very evident. Costumes from the show were on display and the costume designer explained how it was difficult to source 1980’s costumes in Ireland. She had to travel abroad and have some pieces custom made. Students got to participate in camera and storyboarding workshops and more detailed interviews with the cast and director.
The day culminated in an extremely interesting question and answer session, with a panel of very creative individuals, from The National Talent Academies, working in various careers in the film and television industry.
It was a very informative day and a real eye opener in relation to the hundreds of careers available in this area. The passion these creative people had for their jobs was very evident and their enthusiasm was contagious. Our students found it very worthwhile and beneficial. It was a great day out.
Well done to 6C who with the support of their teacher Ms Wall raised €155 for Kilcullen Community Action (KCA) by selling treat bags at break time as part of the Living in the Community module. We were delighted to welcome Noel Clare, former Deputy Principal and member of the KCA to accept the cheque from our students today. The KCA lead a number of initiatives that make Kilcullen a lovely place to live, work in and visit. Thank you to everyone involved.
There was a host of activities in CPC to mark World Book Day on March 6th this year!
Students decorated classroom doors, designed literary 'bad eggs', wrote out book recommendations and reviews to mark the occasion. Many classes participated in reading classes as well.
Staff were encouraged to carry a book with them for the day to engage in conversation about books and of course we had the now annual World Book Day treats and literary pus in the staff room at break time courtesy of Ms Hanratty!
Well done to everyone for getting involved.
In addition to the Ember team's Le Cheile day activity across the whole school this morning, 6C SPHE class create a 'kindness chain' which is displayed in the main foyer of the school. Each link contains an act of kindness, such as 'hold the door open for someone, ask someone do they need help, compliment someone, write a letter to a grandparent and praise someone when they achieve something.'
Please take a moment to read a few and perhaps take one on board to do for your friends/family.
Well done to 6C for sharing some great ideas of kindness.
'No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted'
Today, March 6th 2025, is Le Chéile Day.
The theme of Le Chéile Day for 2025 is ‘Spreading Kindness in Le Chéile Schools’.
Each class was asked to take some time to reflect on and discuss achievable acts of kindness this morning.
Students were then asked to write down one act of kindness that they strive to achieve on the coloured sheet relating to their year group.
The Ember Team collected the sheets and put together a display in the foyer.
Let’s unite to spread kindness. Together we can make a difference!
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a significant period for Catholics. This 40-day season of self-reflection and discipline leads up to Easter Sunday.
Ash Wednesday is a special day of reflection. On this day, Catholics wear a marking of the cross in ash on their foreheads. The ashes symbolise our mortality – Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
The Ethos Committee has arranged for ashes to be distributed tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5th.
Ms. Kelly and Ms. Bucke will be distributing the ashes at the reception area at break time and lunch time.
All staff and students are welcome to come down to receive ashes.
We are excited to announce the start of our CPC Model United Nations Club tomorrow which will be led by Ms. Thorpe and Mr. Regan. If interested, please come along to find out more. As part of our Erasmus+ programme, we are privileged to take part in several international conferences next year.
