TY Update & What’s On Next Week

The Great TY Bake-Off

On Wednesday after school, a number of TY students participated in The Great TY Bake-Off! There was a great aroma coming from the kitchen and we hope all involved had a great time!

Fighting Words

On Monday, Mr. Moloney’s English class left school just before lunch to go to ‘Fighting Words’ - a workshop where they took part in roleplays and explored their imaginations through creative writing.

Junior A Hockey

On Wednesday, our Junior A hockey team travelled to Naas to play against St. Marys. They came away victorious with a scoreline of 2-0 and are now in the final which will take place next Tuesday! Well done to everyone who was involved!

TY Development Day

Today, TY’s had their fourth TY Development Day.

TY 1 took part in a Self Defence Course in St Joseph’s Hall, where they learned how to defend themselves without having to do any complicated manoeuvres. A great opportunity for the girls!

TY 2  met outside Dublin Castle and then went to The Little Museum of Dublin where they learned about the history of Dublin City. Due to the snow they had to cut the day short.

TY 3 headed to Dublin Zoo but unfortunately they had to cut the day short due to the snow

TY 4 completed their Certified First Aid Course. This is a very valuable course as it improves students’ self-esteem, teamwork and communication skills, and prepares them for unpredictable situations and responding to others’ injuries with methods such as CPR. They were treated to an engaging, hands-on set of workshops from an  experienced first aid instructor in Lourdes Hall.

TY 5  worked on their independence skills as they made their way into town to meet their spiritual guide for ‘A Pilgrim Path’ retreat held in Dublin City Centre. Participants did a ‘pilgrimage’ visiting the main churches on both sides of the Liffey, learning about the historical, political, social and spiritual significance of the parish church communities. The retreat was cut short due to the snow.

  • HOCKEY
  • Last week saw our Senior A side play St Raphaelas away in the quarter final of the senior trophy competition. Raphaelas were a side who narrowly beat us earlier in the season but the girls have been training hard all year and felt confident that they could get the result they needed to get to the semi finals. A strong all round performance saw us keep a clean sheet and a brilliant opening goal in the first half was followed up with three super short corner conversions in the second and we finished up winning by four goals to nil. Well done girls, a performance and result to be proud of. We will now play Newpark in the semi final on Monday 4th March in OLS at 4pm for a place in the final!
  • A pivotal week in hockey for a couple of our teams who were set to play their league semi finals after a tough year of league matches saw them into the knockout stages. The Junior A were first up on Wednesday when they travelled to Naas to play against St Mary's. St Mary's had won their section and were coming into the match with the favourites tag attached. In torrential conditions, the girls began slowly but gradually grew into the game and as the half drew to a close we won a short corner after some excellent build up play. A fantastic routine found the backboard and the half time whistle sounded to put us 1-0 in front. St Mary's came out fighting in the second half to try and draw level. Brilliant defending from the entire team saw us remain ahead as we entered the final few minutes of the game. Some fantastic skill on the right hand side saw us break into the circle where Ella Meade finished with a brilliant touch to put us 2-0 up with a minute to play. The girls held out for the last push from St Mary's and as a result, the 2-0 win puts us into the final of the Junior 1A league where we will face off against a team we know well, Newpark, next Tuesday morning in Three Rock Rovers hockey club at 10am! Well done girls, we are all very proud of you and look forward to the final next Tuesday!
  • Next up were the super Minor A team who have played some brilliant hockey all year and went the whole league campaign unbeaten without conceding a goal. They were up against St Columbas college in the semi final on Thursday after school. Early nerves were killed when we went 2-0 up in the first 15 minutes. St Columbas came back into the game but some resolute defending kept rhem at bay and two further goals so the girls run out 4-0 winners in the end! A deserved result for a great performance and the girls will now play the final next Friday, 8th March, at 11am in Three Rock Rovers against either Loreto Bray or Loreto on the Green. Congratulations girls, we are all incredibly proud of your hard work to get to this point!
  • Next week will see the school in two finals and another semi final which is fantastic and just reward for all of the hard work that the girls have put in this year. We would love to see as many supporters out as possible to cheer us on as we aim to win our first silverware of the season. The schedule of play is as follows:
  • Monday 4th March
  • Senior A -v- ,Newpark, at home in OLS at 4pm, Semi Final of the Leinster Senior Trophy
  • Tuesday 5th March
  • Junior A -v- Newpark, Three Rock Rovers Grange Rd Rathfarnaham, 10am, Final of the Junior 1A league
  • Friday 8th March
  • Minor A -v- Loreto Bray or Loreto on the Green, Three Rock Rovers Grange Rd Rathfarnham, 11am, Final of the Minor 1A league
  • Have a super sporting weekend!
