Hard luck to the u15 girls soccer team, who were narrowly beaten by Leixlip College in the Leinster semi-final last Friday. The team performed exceptionally well and were extremely unfortunate to not make the final. The team are really looking forward to next season and adding more silverware to the North Leinster title they won a few weeks ago. Well done to everyone involved. Mr. Williams & Ms. Fitzgerald

Dear parents/Guardians,

It is getting close now to prize-givings and graduations, a very exciting time of year.
On Tuesday morning each year group will be called down to the PE Hall to receive subject award certificates.  These awards are presented to students who have worked hard in the different subjects throughout the year.  It is a big honour to win such a certificate and room should be made on your fridge for them, or even better, a little A4 picture frame might give it the backdrop it deserves.
We will then call down the whole school for a prizegiving.  In each year group, three major awards will be presented, they are:
Care Award -  for demonstrating care and kindness in all of their interactions with students and staff
Creativity Award - for the student who has shared their creativity for the betterment of the school community
Student of the Year Award - for the student with excellent work ethic and participation in school life
These are HUGE awards and deserve a place on the mantlepiece for sure.
We will also present subject awards and major award to 6th Years at this time so that all the students can see their achievements.
Students must wear the full uniform (PE won't happen on Tuesday) for the awards.
Photos will be taken and shared.

Parent Nominee to the Board of Management
The current Board of Management's three year term will come to an end on 31 July 2024 and we would like to thank Nicky Bowman and Una Ennis for so ably representing the interests of parents/guardians on our Board for the past three  years.  Details of how to nominate a parent/guardian for this role in the next Board have been sent home in letter form with the students today.  Please excavate the school bag to find it.  Essentially, any nominations should be sent (with the permission of the nominee) to athboycs.@eircom.net by Friday 31 May at 2pm.

Arrangements for 3rd Years
A letter has been sent home to parents of 3rd Year students regarding optional supervised study during house exam week.  Please return the form on Monday 20 May to Ms McGrory.

Supervised Study over exam week
In last week's update, I told you about exam schedules for 1st, 2nd and 5th Years on the week of 27-30 May.  A letter was sent home to all students involved last week and needs to be returned asap re opting in or out of afternoon study.

TYs Return
The trip to Italy was a great success, thanks to Joanne Dowling, Louise Byrne and Liam McHugh, all returned safe and suitably wrecked!

Leinster Athletics
TY student Nick Keogh came 5th place in the Hammer Throwing in the Leinster Finals on Wednesday, he may still qualify for the All-Ireland.  Well done, Nick!

Retrofit Workshop
The workshop has continued all week as an excellent resource for our senior Engineering and Construction students.

Trips
First Years went to Carlingford on Monday with Roger Maxwell and tutors and a great day was had by all.
Third Years went to   Bay Sports with Maggie McGrory on Wednesday which also went well, with excellent participation by the year head!
Not to be outdone, Tony Magner was seen coming down a massive water slide and estimates that he was accidently tipped out of his canoe into the water at least five times, to the delight of his Fifth Years at Bay Sports yesterday.

Minor Girls Soccer
Freddie William's Girls Minor Soccer team played in the Leinster semi-final today - unfortunately, despite being the better team, they lost out by a goal on the day. Well played girls, and hard luck!

Assemblies
I met 2nd and 1st Years for an end of year assembly today to cover the following topics in advance of next year: Our Anti-Bullying Policy, Our new Learning Code, Student Leadership, the change to 58 minutes classes, our new tutor system and phone pouches for next year.
I will meet 3rd Years and 5th Years on Monday and TYs later in the week.

Next Week
Whole School Subject Awards - Tuesday
6th Year Graduation - Wednesday

Have a lovely weekend!

5th Year School Tour To BaySports Athlone

On Thursday May 16th, the 5th Year School Tour took place to BaySports at the Hodson Bay in Athlone. 50 students along with tutors Mr. Sheridan and Miss Walsh and Year Head Mr. Magner enjoyed a beautiful day in the sun on Lough Ree engaging in a fun filled day of games and watersports. BaySports is home to the largest floating waterpark in Ireland and has one of the world's largest floating waterslides, something that caused quite an intake of breath as the bus rolled into the car park!

Upon arrival the students were kitted out in wetsuits, helmet and paddles and taken down to the shoreline for some team games and then a safety demonstration from their instructors. After that it was out on the water for over an hour, half spent kayaking and the other half Paddleboarding.

After that, the group enjoyed a great afternoon together on the inflatable waterslides and obstacle courses that make BaySports so well known. The group returned to the shoreline tired but happy for some food, and then their return journey to Athboy.
