MUN Conference success

Congratulations to the students who represented Our Lady's School at the Rathdowne School MUN conference on the 8th and 9th of November. All the girls did a great job and were wonderful ambassadors for the school and their country, Peru. Special congratulations to Hannah Fowler who got a resolution on Security Council passed.

Welcome back to all our students who had glowing reports from their Work Experiences. After a well deserved rest over the midterm break we hope all students are as enthusiastic as every for the exciting opportunities the new term will present. Please see below some notices for the week ahead. Monday 11th - Wednesday 13th: Students have been scheduled for their Mid Year TY interviews. Please remind your daughter to check for her slot and to be on time. Reschedules will only be made for those gone on school activities, approved work experience or those with a doctors note for absence due to illness. Wednesday 13th - Thursday 12th: Eirquest aptitude testing. All students will be partaking in their aptitude testing on Wednesday (B + C) and Thursday (P + L). Please ensure your daughter is present for her testing as there will not be a repeat of the testing. Next week is Active week. Our Sport Leadership class is TY is organising a school wide Tug of War competition. There will be activities during lunchtime during the week and during PE classes so encourage your daughter to get involved. Her tracksuit will be required some days so if she is unsure she can ask the students on the School's Active Flag committee or any students in the Sports Leadership class. Safeguarding Course - Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course will be run on a date to be confirmed depending on numbers who apply. This course is recommended for anybody working with children. It will cost €5 - €10 depending on numbers. Open to anybody 16 years old but those under 16 can also partake, and their certificates will be processed once they turn 16. Fundamental coaching course for hockey is taking place in March/February. If your daughter is interested in taking place it is one day during school in February/March, it is €50 and we need a minimum of 10 to run the course. If interested please let Ms. Phillips know by Tuesday lunchtime.
Active School Flag Launch Week!

The Active School Flag launch week is next week. We're starting off with a tug of war tournament! In preparation, every class is learning how to take part during their P.E class this week. Our TY active schools class have been trained by the Tug Of War Association Of Ireland and will coach each year group all the rules of tug of war. It has started off ’tugrifficly’!! On Friday the 15th of November the winning teams of students will have a final tug against a team of teachers!! We have the TY competition on Monday at lunch so make sure you have a team of 5. The year finals will start on Tuesday at lunch and we will end the week with the teacher final on Friday at lunch! Keep tugging!!

Our TY Active School Flag group were trained in coaching Tug of War today - they'll be spreading their knowledge to the rest of the school community soon! Well done to the Minor A and Senior C hockey teams who won their matches today and the U16 and U18 badminton teams who were also victorious yesterday!
RTÉ Youth Assembly on Climate at Dáil Éireann

Congratulations to Saffron Ralph, L4, who has been selected by RTÉ to partake in the RTÉ Youth Assembly on Climate at Dáil Éireann on Friday November 15th. Saffron impressed the Final Judging Panel to be selected from almost 1000 applicants. It will be broadcast live from Leinster House on RTE 2 and on News Now at 2.30 on Friday the 15th of November. We can also register support on the day at rte.ie/youthassembly We proudly support Saffron in her Dáil debut!
Green Schools: Forever Fits and The Last Straw

Well done to Forever Fits (junior team; Hannah Murphy, Isabelle Murphy, Holly Cassidy, Racgel Li, Maura O'Riordan) and The Last Straw (senior team; Róisín O'Neill, Ava Power, Anna Yarr), who have been selected to attend the Dublin Regional Event on the 27th February. They will present their Presentation Pitch and deliver their 1-Minute Film on the Big Screen to a panel of expert judges for the SEAI 'one good idea competition'. Both teams are working hard to create awareness about the links between fast fashion (Forever Fits) and plastic use (The Last Straw) and the links to climate change,

Into the Grey - One School, One Book

The author, Celine Kiernan, visited Our Lady's yesterday and spoke to students about her book - Into the Grey. All students and staff are reading Into the Grey as One School, One Book. Students asked wonderful questions and Celine gave great writing advice to aspiring authors!
