Last week, some TY students took part in a TU Dublin Photography Challenge. They were divided into 2 groups, one group working in a studio, the other in a darkroom, and then later both groups swapping over. The students in the darkroom were given negatives and using enlargers, photo paper and chemical developed test strips, before producing full-sized (8” X10”) prints. Those in the studio got a basic understanding of photographic equipment and exposure, artificial lighting, colour and how it can be used to your advantage when taking portraits. Each student got an opportunity to be in front of and behind the camera. Great fun and an interesting learning experience was had by all students involved.

Six students (2 teams) from Mount Carmel took part in the annual TU Dublin/Concern TY Debate Challenge this week. The motions for their debates, were 'Business' should be fined for underpaying staff' and 'Gen Z just isn’t that serious about ending fast fashion'. Mount Carmel was the proposition for the 'Business' should be fined for underpaying staff' debate and won it. The competing students got to learn skills in research, critical thinking, public speaking and debating. Well done to all the students involved and their teacher Ms. Traynor, for preparing them. A big thank you also, to TU Dublin and Concern for organising the event.
