On the bright, sunny day of October 10th, Holy Faith Clontarf’s camogie team faced off against Loreto Crumlin. With a mild wind blowing over pitch 21 the game began at 11:30, Holy Faith were playing into the wind for the first half. The team started off the game strong, as a wide in the first minute by Loreto allowed goalie Keelin Lambert to pass to Niamh Hetherton in midfield. Niamh carried, passing to Faye Crumlish who returned the sliotar and the play ended in an excellent goal by Niamh. Holy Faith were on the scoreboard within the first minute of the match. The team continued to play strong by keeping possession and had many attempts on goal that either went wide or were saved. After a wide by Crumlin, Holy Faith goal keeper Keelin hit out to Niamh again who carried the sliotar and went on to score another goal for Holy Faith, making it two goals to Holy Faith. For every point that Crumlin scored, Holy Faith doubled it. Niamh Hetherton, who was all over the pitch, was consistently making excellent passes and scoring points, and was then moved into full back. Holy Faith carried on fighting for the ball in the first half. The backs held their positions strongly thanks to Ciara Mangan, while Sam Lynch tackled and fought well in the forwards. A lucky goal was scored by Crumlin after a mis-directed pass from Holy Faith. However, two excellent plays were made, both starting with Niamh carrying the sliotar through the centre. Thanks to great runs and passes from Faye Crumlish and Keelin Hayden, Eimear Mangan scored two more brilliant goals, bringing up the score. The game was very fluid, as the team had great support running from all players, and passes were very accurate. Holy Faith were winning with ease thanks to their great teamwork and perseverance. The first half ended with a score of 4:2 – 1:2 to Holy Faith. The team took up their positions on the pitch with a strong breeze behind them, benefiting Holy Faith. The second half began with Leah Duffy and Jane Murphy in mid- field. After two unlucky wide points, Holy Faith’s teamwork payed off when Niamh Hetherton struck the sliothar over the bar, followed shortly by a fantastic goal scored by Karen Devine, set up nicely by a clear pass from Leah Duffy. With great persistence and determination from the forwards, Holy Faith were given a free, taken by mid-field Jane Murphy and hit to Eimear Mangan who knocked the sliotar into the goal. Several excellent saves were made by Holy Faith goalie, Keelin Lambert, and the ball was successfully cleared by Abbey Eccles. Holy Faith scored another well-deserved goal after a great run down the pitch by Sadhnh Rice, to Karen Devine who slapped the sliotar into the goal. Jane Murphy took the side-line ball for Holy Faith; making a solid pass to Niamh Heatherton who then sent the sliotar to the forward line, caught cleanly by Leah Duffy and lashed into the back of the net. After a strong fight and great defending from the Holy Faith backs, Loreto Crumlin managed to score a lucky goal. Despite this, Holy Faith kept playing to an exceptional standard, finishing the match with a final score of 8:4-2:5, a strong and well-deserved win. TY Journalists; Ellen Hayes and Sadie Loughman

On Thursday the 4th of October Holy Faiths under 16 football team played their first league match against Mercy Navan. The match was at home on pitch 34 in Saint Anne’s Park. The match began at 12:00. Holy Faith started off very strong, Eve Guerin(Holy Faith goalie) saving three incredible shots on goal within the first few minutes and Eimear Mangan scoring the first point of the game. However Mercy Navan caught up by scoring their first goal after many saved attempts, followed by four points. The referee was very strict on tackling and didn’t let the game flow. This seemed to effect Holy Faiths game negatively. But the positive side was Eimear Mangan scoring 3 points from frees. The first half ended with Holy Faith 3 goals and 4 points down . After the first half Holy Faith had a bit of work to do in order to get back in the game. The second half began and Mercy Navan started off strong scoring a point within the first minute. Holy Faiths Eimear Gibson then made an excellent run passing a brilliant ball into Sadie Loughman who scored a point to get Holy Faith back on the score board. The referee later blew up a free giving Roisin Quigley a free kick on the half way line. She layed it on to Caoimhe Hoy who then dropped it into Eimear Mangan in the full forward line. Eimear then drilled it into the back of the net scoring a great goal. Holy Faith were back in the game after their great play as a team. With ten minutes left there was still a gap in the score with Navan ahead. Eimear Mangan was then awarded a penalty. She took a lovely strike just a bit too high and hit the crossbar, however her great reactions allowed her to pass into Sadie Loughman who scored a goal. With only a few minutes left Mercy Navan scored a few lucky goals. The whistle blew and unfortunately Mercy Navan came out ahead winning the game. It was a disappointing result for Holy Faith, although they never gave up. Journalists: Jessica O Regan and Ellie Hynes
