HFSS reach All Ireland Final
Created : 12 Oct 2022, 7:25 PM
Archived : 12 Dec 2022, 12:00 AM

Following the late finish to last year's competition, our 1st Year Soccer team (now 2nd Years) had to wait until today to represent Leinster in the All Ireland series following their Leinster title last May. They travelled to Nenagh AFC to face the Munster champions, Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine from Kenmare.

With this being both sides first game of the season the first half was a cagey, scrappy affair. Neither side could get a foothold which created an end to end affair with few chances being created. As the half was drawing to a close HFSS began to gain some ascendency and won a free kick 20 metres from the goal. From the resulting free Jessica McNulty's shot rebounded from the underside of the crossbar onto the goalline. HFSS tried desperately to divert the loose ball into the goal to no avail and the Kerry school cleared the ball to safety.

The second half began in a similar fashion to the ending of the first. HFSS were on top and putting huge pressure on the Kenmare defence. The breakthrough goal finally came in the 8th minute of the second half. A through ball from midfield found Ella Donnellan who took a touch and calmly slotted the ball beyond the keeper. The Newbridge girls continued to push for a second to kill the game off but couldn't find the clinical finish when in scoring positions. The only genuine chance for our opponents came as the Kenmare school pushed multiple players forward for an equaliser a ball across the six yard box was missed by all when any firm touch would've diverted the ball goalwards. In the final moments HFSS defended stoutly clearing the ball everywhere and anywhere once it was not around our penalty area. The final whistle brought jubilant scenes as players and our vocal supporters celebrated on the pitch.

Next up is the All Ireland Final versus Presentation Athenry in the coming weeks.

Good evening, parents/guardians and students

E-books

Have you downloaded your free e-books yet?
Get organised with your learning for the year and lighten the load for homework by downloading your free e-books...

There may be some subjects where the textbook may be left in your locker in school, and the e-book version can be used for homework, instead of bringing books in and out each day. All textbooks should have a code/system to give you access to a free e-book version of the textbook.

There are some useful supports in the attached PDF document to help you get started...

Student Supports for Using Office 365 (Teams)

Teachers use the class Team to communicate with students and make resources available for learning. A reminder to students to check Teams regularly to keep up to date with learning and important information.

Did you know there are teacher-made videos on our website to help your child to use our school platform for learning? Teachers on our Digital Learning Team created some ‘how to’ videos to show students how to use Office 365 (Teams) on different devices at home. You can find them here ... Parents - Holy Family School

Mental Health Awareness Week
Created : 30 Sep 2022, 9:45 AM
Archived : 30 Nov 2022, 12:00 AM
This week in HFSS, we focused on discussing the importance of mental health, promoting positive self-esteem and providing students with the tools and skills necessary to resolve conflict and the inevitable setbacks.
The aim is to boost their self-confidence by supporting good decision making, assertiveness, perseverance, and self-determination.
To coincide with MHAW, we launched our lunchtime school activities timetable where we saw the introduction of a number of new lunchtime clubs and activities.
On Tuesday we welcomed local Mental Health and Wellbeing counsellor Paddy Maher to the school. Paddy spent the day talking with every year about the importance of mental wellbeing with a strong focus on helping students to become resilient. He concluded each discussion with some meditation and mindfulness.
