UCD in conjunction with Pieta House are providing the talks and in return are requesting participation in a survey. I hope these will be of benefit to any household who have this experience.
Kind regards

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),
We are a research team from University College Dublin and Pieta working on a project funded by the Irish National Office of Suicide Prevention. Research has shown an increase in mental health difficulties over the course of the pandemic such as self-harm. As part of this project, we are hosting a series of free webinars for anyone interested in learning more about self-harm in adolescents including parents or guardians. Eventbrite page to book a place: www.eventbrite.com/e/talks-for-parents-understanding-self-harm-in-adolescents-tickets-188405053587
Monday November 1st 7pm: ‘Understanding Self-Harm in Adolescents’, a talk from Sinead Raftery and Leigh Kenny (Pieta Therapists)
Monday November 8th 7pm: ‘What is self-harm, why is my child doing it, and what can I do about it?, a talk from Madeline Connolly (Senior Psychiatric Social Worker and Systemic Family Psychotherapist- Lucena Clinic, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and Katie Murphy (Social Worker and Systemic Practitioner, Lucena Clinic)
Tuesday November 16th 7pm: ‘Understanding Self-Harm Through the Medium of Metaphor’, a talk from Dr Colman Noctor (Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, Author, Broadcaster and Podcaster)
This project is also developing resources for the parents and guardians of young people (ages 10-19) who have engaged in self-harm. Parents and guardians who attend and who have experience supporting an adolescent will also be invited to take part in a survey. The findings of this survey will help organisations to provide useful information for parents in a way that is easy for parents to access.

Mid-term Message

Dear Parent or Guardian
I would like to congratulate the students on their participation this week in Readers & Writers week and Maths week. Today was a fun-filled day in school and it was heartening to see the students enjoying the activities. Rich learning happens through events such as these.
With regard to Covid 19 restrictions, no changes are being introduced for schools after mid-term. We have now found ways of introducing fun based activities to school that fall within the guidelines. While many restrictions have been lifted in society, schools are deemed to be safe places and therefore no significant changes are envisaged for them in the near future. I wish to thank all our staff, students and parents who continue to be very supportive of the school and the guidelines by which we are bound. The wearing of masks and the other restrictions are wearing for all in school on a daily basis. At times we are all frustrated with the restrictions. That said, the health and safety of everyone in our school community is paramount.
We look forward to another term which will bring the ring of Christmas as it comes to an end.
Dates to note:
4th November: 3rd Year - Learning Advice Meeting (PTM), 4.15pm - 6.45pm
15 - 19 November - November Assessments for 1st, 5th & 6th Year students. Classes as normal for all other years.
22 - 26 November - November Assessments for 2nd, 3rd & 4th Year Students. Classes as normal for all other years.
The mid-term progress report for 1st year students is now available on VSware.
The co-curricular timetable will continue after the mid-term break. The uptake of all the activities has been very strong. Please continue to encourage your daughters to be involved. Friendships are made and school is enjoyed through sport and other activities. Last week Hannah McLoughlin, our past pupil, came to the school. At 21 she is a member of the Irish Ladies Hockey team and played in all games at the recent Olympics. The first and second year students got to meet with her. Her key messages for the students were to stay focussed on what you enjoy and to stay involved in sport or other activities right through school. We thank her and wish her well in her future academically and in her sport.
I wish you all a lovely mid-term. I look forward to seeing everyone back in School on 1st November, refreshed and ready to start again.
With every good wish
Bernadette Prendiville, Principal
