Dear Parent/Guardian,
Your child/ward has been invited to take part in The Youth Fund with the Our Generation Team of Youth Work Ireland. This programme is being delivered in partnership with Monaghan Integrated Developed who your child/ward is already involved with. Monaghan Integrated Development will remain the main point of contact for you to discuss any concerns/queries.
“Our Generation” is a cross-border partnership project funded by the Peace 4 strand of the EU, which is being delivered through seven regional, with Youth Work Ireland being one of these delivery organisations.
The Youth Fund will run for approximately 6 months offer your child/ward the chance to increase:
● leadership and teamwork skills;
● committee skills and experience;
● community mapping;
● confidence to voice their opinion within the team and respectfully challenge each other;
● skills to concisely and clearly express complex issues;
● skills in empathy, and ability to consider other perspectives;
● interview skills;
● understanding of the needs within their community and the leadership role they can play;
● understanding of the roles that they can take in their community.
During this timeframe participants will also have an opportunity to take part in the Be Well Programme which is delivered as a 60 minute session online or 90 minute session in a face to face context.
The Be Well Programme is an emotional awareness programme which offers participants the opportunity to:
● Understand what Anxiety is and develop self-awareness around the effects of anxiety
● Identify what happens to their body, emotions and behaviours when they feel anxious
● Identify and use their own coping skills for dealing with anxiety
● Understand they’re not alone and to become aware of different supports available to them
This is an awareness raising programme, which will equip young people with the tools they need to address anxiety they may experience in the future. We ask that participants do not share personal experiences or information in the session.
The YES Programme is a Europe-wide initiative to provide young people with empowering sexual health & reproductive education through 3 x 1hr sessions:
● Session One – Sexuality Identity and Healthy Relationships
● Session Two – Communicating Consent
● Session Three – Wider Influences and Decision Making
Young people have previously identified the areas of health and safety, sex education and laws/regulations around sex, as being the issues they want to learn more about, be heard on and change. These issues have formed the basis for this programme and we wish to deliver these sessions in response to young people’s needs.
All of these programmes are completely voluntary, we ask that you complete the information below if your child/ward wishes to take part. As it is voluntary the young people can choose to leave the session if they find it difficult and they will be supported by school/youth work staff if this should occur. We will also provide each participant with a Referral Booklet at the end of the programme which will detail sources of further support for them.
Anonymised data will be shared with Ulster University for research purposes and stored for a period of 10 years. No identifying information will be stored or shared. This means that your identifying information will be removed and only your anonymised answers will be stored and shared. Completion of this form will indicate your consent to this.
By completing this form I understand that unacceptable or disruptive behaviour displayed by my child/ward may lead to access to the service being withdrawn from them for a fixed period of time or indefinitely.
If you would like more information on the Social Action Project, the Be Well Project, the Our Generation programme which they are a part of, or Youth Work Ireland as a delivery organisation, then please email ourgeneration@youthworkireland.ie
