Next September, Rochestown College will move the entire school community over to Office 365 and introduce the students to a new way of creating, storing and collaborating their information. . Teachers have already completed the transition this year and during the summer we will be preparing to migrate our students from Google to Microsoft. Office 365 is free to students which means all the old favourites of Word, Powerpoint, Excel and more will be free for them to use as well as their very own stfranciscollege.ie email. All this is with a view to preparing students for third level (most of which use Office365) and to show them ways in which they can work more as a team and collaborate. To facilitate this change, we will need all current students (except 6th years) to complete the following form before Friday June 1st. forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=_f2RLVoh70ufdWoEVag-SuQzjTolpnBAsDIECuw6uxJUMURWM0RIM09MWlRTWFBWTllRUUFFWlBBNi4u

Over the past six weeks 10 fourth year students have been taking part in an environmental project as part of the GLOBE program. GLOBE is a worldwide science and education program that builds students understanding of their environment by making observations. The fourth year students have observed cloud patterns, taken aerosol readings using a photometer and entered their data into an online database (which has seen several matches with NASA sateilles). Furthermore Niall O’Sullivan, a past pupil, visited the school to speak to the students about his aerosol research work as part of his PhD in UCC and how the students work can help atmospheric research. Well done to the GLOBE team for all their work!
