Our Pop Up Restaurant Fine Dining experience 'The Cabaret Lounge and Restaurant.'  was a huge success last evening. This 1920s-themed pop-up transformed our assembly hall into a stylish venue. Over ninety guests enjoyed a night of delicious food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere.

With guidance from Food School’s Georga Dowling and Conor Wafer, our students took charge of everything. They worked together to plan and cook a menu full of tasty dishes. From starters to desserts, every meal was beautifully presented and packed with flavour.

The hall was decorated with beautiful 1920s-style designs and some stunning artwork, making guests feel like they had stepped back in time. Students dressed in themed vintage outfits and our band The Cabaret provided fabulous entertainment.

Our Front of House servers did an amazing job. They were professional, friendly, and made sure every guest felt welcome. Our Kitchen Crew created the most beautifully presented, tasty food under the guidance of Chef Conor Wafer, Fergal Barton and 6th Year Mikey Beckett. Thank you to past pupil Aaron Wafer, Fifth Years Luke Costello, Matthew O’Gorman and Rhys Byrne who helped with Cupid’s Bar and most importantly wash up! The mix of delicious food, great service, and fantastic entertainment made it a night to remember.

This experience showed how hardworking, creative, and dedicated our students are. Not only did they improve their cooking and service skills, but they also learned about event planning, teamwork, and customer service. Georga and Conor provided great support and guidance to help bring the students' ideas to life.

The Cabaret Lounge and Restaurant was a celebration of learning, creativity, and teamwork. The night was so enjoyable, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who attended. It showed just how much can be achieved with passion and dedication. Our sincere thanks to Fallons of Kilcullen who loaned us their tables and  beautiful chairs. Thanks also to The Hideout for loaning us glasses. Support from our local community is invaluable and allows us to give our students these wonderful opportunities. Well done to everyone involved in making the Pop Up Restaurant event so special!

Dear guidance counsellor/principal,

We have recently announced an exceptional application facility for those students who have been impacted by Storm Éowyn. Details of that announcement can be found here: https://www2.cao.ie/press/releases/300125pressrelease.pdf

To summarise the arrangements, please note the following:

CAO is arranging to make an exceptional facility available for those impacted by the unprecedented circumstances caused by storm Éowyn who, as a result, are unable to make a 2025 CAO application by 1 February at 5pm.

The exceptional application facility will be made available from 1 February at 5pm until 6 February at 5pm for applicants who are currently experiencing power and internet outages due to Storm Éowyn.

In the interim, we encourage all those who are in a position to apply to do so by 1 February at 5pm.

For operational reasons, this exceptional facility cannot be extended after 6 February at 5pm.

We would appreciate your assistance in communicating this information to any potential applicants who may have been impacted.

Yours sincerely,

Eileen Keletghan

Upcoming Psychoeducational Webinars from Cycle Against Suicide

Please see information from Cycle Against Suicide regarding webinars you may be interested in. First in the series is on School Refusal

Dear all,

There is growing concern about the mental health and wellbeing of young people in Ireland. A stark dataset exists capturing the upward trend in psychological distress reported among children and teenagers. Countless concerned voices have highlighted the inadequate resourcing of mental health services for young people which has led to unacceptable waiting times to access help. Powerful accounts in the media have conveyed the devastating impact of the delays in trying to access support and how the inaccessibility of services compounds the psychological distress for young people and their families.

The experience of psychological vulnerability disempowers not just the child/teenager but their parents too as they struggle to know how to best support their child. Deep rooted anxiety among parents and caregivers about the increased rates of self-harm and suicidal acts reported among students intensify the stress of the situation stripping parents of their self-belief – a crucial tool in the often-long road supporting their child’s recovery.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that parental support is key to young people’s wellbeing and recovery. Indeed, research exploring what best helps children and teenagers recover from episodes of mental health challenge have found that the role of parents is crucial. One of the most constructive inputs for children and young people with mental health difficulties is to provide their parents and/or carers with accurate, accessible information to empower them towards appropriate, effective action. Many parents identify this at a turning point in their child’s journey to recovery. Children and teenagers too highlight how much more secure their path to wellbeing feels when they are safe in the knowledge that their parents understand what they are going through and have a roadmap to support their recovery journey.

Upcoming Webinars.

First topic this school term will be the issue of ‘School Refusal’.  Dr. Gavin will discuss the signs, symptoms and underlying causes, its impact on mental health of young people and the importance of addressing the issue early, while also offering strategies to help parents and teachers deal with it.

This term we will also discuss the issue of ‘Self-Harm’, helping parents and teachers to be able to understand what ‘self-harm’ is and what it is not.  To recognise the signs and causes of young people self-harming, know how to manage the risk of self-harm, and
helpful responses,
