When things go wrong as they sometimes will...

We all hit speed bumps from time to time when things feel thrown off course and the struggle seems greater than usual. It's then, more than ever, that we need to remind ourselves to go searching for the positive. Start today by writing an entry in the Gratitude section of your journal (p18). If you're grateful for the people around you, don't forget to let them know every so often! We're grateful for all the selfless work the front line staff are doing and we sent any Personal Protective Equipment we had in school to the local hospitals. Ms Donlon, our chaplain, has put together some ideas to help us remember what's important at a time like this...take a scroll through the attached pdf to give you some ideas of things we might feel grateful for, even though things are tough. Also remember, the OLS community is going through this together. Reach out to a teacher or a friend or a classmate if you need a little help today. We're grateful for the community connections we can draw on for support.

Please see some notices below regarding the final week of the TY programme. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: Online classes as normal for assessments feedback and corrections. Thursday: Year Group Assembly/Prizegiving @ 10am & whole-school Prizegiving (academic & sport) @1pm Friday: Whole-school Final Assembly @10am Update RE Trip to the Gaeltacht/Dingle The organised trip to the Gaeltacht in September has been cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are disappointed not to be able to offer our students this worthwhile opportunity however our students and teachers safety must come first. The bursar will contact each parent/guardian asking for bank details in due course so we start the process of organising the refunds. Refunds of the deposits will be processed the first week in June. Congratulations to Emily Aasen whose short play 'Stonewall' was one of two finalists selected by The Civic Theatre from their Tenderfoot writing programme. Her play will be recorded by The Civic in a video presentation in September.

Our Lighthouse mentors are 5th Years who volunteer to mentor 2nd Years throughout the year. Their symbol, the lighthouse, represents a beacon of hope, guidance and strength in stormy times. Today they're giving us all a lift with their reminder that 'Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain'. Have a good day's dancing! Thanks 5th Years :)

Reminding everyone this morning to remember we're working towards big things but taking small steps together to get there. Today's steps: Get up, get dressed, get started. Take each subject as it comes. Start early so you can finish early. Ask when you need help. In case the good habits are getting the wobbles, check out these wellbeing reminders to keep on track for the last week before the hols. Small steps, keep moving :)

Well done students, teachers and parents for making it through Week 2 of remote learning! We are so proud of our school community for pulling together and meeting this challenge head on. Ní neart go cur le chéile - there's no strength without unity. We will send another survey to students today for another check in. We had a super response last week which helped us plan this week so we are asking our students to share their experiences again. The survey will be sent via email. If you don't get it, please email remotelearning@olschool.ie. Have a well earned digital break this weekend. Reach out to your classmates. Keep your social distance. Stay connected, stay safe, stay safe on line.
OLS Believe It to Achieve It Challenge

We're calling on the OLS community to set themselves a challenge...a goal to complete during our social distancing period! It can be anything you want it to be from learning to do a handstand to learning a new language, from knitting to learning to play that guitar you have at home. We want as many of the OLS community as possible to get involved and challenge themselves! Ms Phelan is aiming for a 15-minute wall squat, Ms McGinley wants to master a handstand, Ms Doran is going for 20 keepy-uppies, Ms Byrne is targeting a 5 minute plank while a whole team of teachers has pledged to run 10km...each...without stopping...from their respective socially distanced locations! What will you do? #BelieveittoAchieveit
Thankful it's Thursday?!

Let's take life day by day and be thankful for the little things. Don't get caught up in what you can't control. Focus on the positive. Your challenge today is to go to p18 of your homework journal and write in what you are grateful for today. Tell someone at home and ask them what they are grateful for. Keeping track of what we're grateful for keeps us calm and positive!
