Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our Lady’s School is taking part in a Green-Schools school initiative. We are promoting sustainable travel to and from school. From 9th – 13th of March, all students are asked to walk, cycle or “park and stride” to help improve air quality, reduce emissions and create a healthier environment around our school grounds.
By making this simple change, we can make a real difference and improve the quality of air we all breathe. Let’s give it a go! We would like to thank you for your continued support.
Kind Regards,
The Green-Schools Committee

Well done to the following TY students who last night participated in the Eastern Regional Final of Junk Kouture 2020 in the Helix.
Erin Fanning (Model), Jenny Leahy & Laoise Fay with 'Manhattan Popcorn'; Shauna Toolan (Model), Ciara Clancy & Emma Kennedy with 'Smokers are Jokers' and Halle DonnellyMahon (Model & Designer) with Halle's Kingdom of Fun Amusement Park'. This was a great achievement as our three teams were selected from over 1,300 entries to become one of the final 400. It was a tough competition, and although our teams were not chosen from the 80 outfits last night as one of the top 15 to go on to the National Final in April in the Three Arena they had wonderful performances in front of a packed house
Poem of the Week

‘Birth Day’ presents the experience of two parents who react in awe to the birth of their baby daughter. The momentous nature of the occasion is emphasised by the hyperbolic, war-like language of the poem. Their baby is portrayed as a formidable warrior. Her skin is “armoured in red” when she emerges from the womb. She does not cry; she “roars”. She is not fragile; she “commands”. Her tiny legs are not simply kicking and wriggling; they “combat the air”. This baby is on a mission to make her presence known! Awestruck by the presence of their daughter, the parents feel that they have been emotionally “conquered” by her. They have no doubt that the intensity of their joy will be shared by others—so much so, that their tiny “naked warrior” will conquer the emotions of all those she meets, and every single person will succumb to their emotions: “Entire empires are overthrown”.
This week’s poem is dedicated to Ms. Heaphy and baby Ivy!
Birth Day
Armoured in red, her voice commands
every corner. Bells gong on squares,
in steeples, answering the prayers.
Bright tulips crown the boulevards.
Pulled from the womb she imitates
that mythic kick from some god’s head.
She roars, and we are conquered.
Her legs, set free, combat the air.
Naked warrior: she is our own.
Entire empires are overthrown.
