Over 260 Naas CBS students took part in a duathlon event at Naas Racecourse on May 12th. Organised by the CBS Parents Council, the duathlon is one of many annual sporting events hosted by the committee since 2011, when the inaugural Naas CBS Triathlon was launched. Proudly supported by Naas Racecourse, sponsors included Fitzpatrick's Garage Opel Naas, Made Personal, Fitzsimons Finance, Cross Insurance Ltd, Halligan Transport Ltd., Forestall Risk Management and Boston Access.
Ben Travers, Naas CBS Principal, said: “I warmly thank our Parents’ Council for organising yet another super event for our pupils. Sport and well-being is at the very core of our school ethos and it is great to see so many of our pupils take part again in this event. Of course, the organisation and conduct of the duathlon would not be possible without the support of our main sponsors, who I also thank sincerely. I pay homage to the many local businesses who have supported the event, including those who provided the goody bags of water, fruit and snacks - Queally Group, Swans on the Green, Salmon’s Centra Monreadand Super Valu Naas – and those who provided spot prizes - Colgan Sports, Cahill Cycles, Andy's Barbers, The Men's Room, and Hawk & Blade. My thanks to Naas Triathlon Club who provided bike racks. It is wonderful to see such wide and continued community support for our boys.”
Chairman of the CBS Parents’ Council, Frank Murphy, said: “We are delighted to be back hosting a sporting event in 2023. As ever, the main purpose of the duathlon is to encourage the students to take on a healthy and rewarding outdoor challenge. The duathlon consists of three consecutive challenges around the racecourse; a team or individual must complete a 1900m run, followed by a 6km cycle and then finally, another 1900m run. Above all, this is a fun event that the students have come to enjoy each year.”
The year 2023 has been peppered yet again with an extensive list of tremendous sporting accolades for Naas CBS pupils of all ages, across athletics, basketball, kayaking, tennis, badminton, soccer, rugby and football. As well as retaining the Leinster Senior A football title, students brought home a range of medals from the All-Ireland Cross Country and Leinster Schools Track and Field. Students represented Kildare on the winning All-Ireland U20 Football Championship panel and were team members at Naas Rugby Club, who won the U16 Leinster Premier League for the second year in a row.
Harnessing increasing sporting success and seeking to further develop students’ potential, Naas CBS has been granted planning permission for an all-weather playing facility. The school will seek to engage support and sponsorship from the Naas community and businesses in the coming months. For further info contact CBS Parents Council at cbspcnaas@gmail.com.

Congratulations to Naas CBS on receiving the ‘School of Sanctuary’ accreditation! This is a significant achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff, students and parents in creating a safe and inclusive environment for all. Being the first school in Kildare to become a Champion School of Sanctuary is a great accomplishment, and it shows our commitment to promoting diversity, respect, and understanding.
The ‘School of Sanctuary Ireland’ recognition is well-deserved and highlights our efforts to ensure that everyone in our school community feels welcome and supported. It is important to create such an environment where everyone can feel valued and respected, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Thank you to ‘School of Sanctuary Ireland’ who have awarded us with this prestigious title and Maynooth University for visiting our school yesterday.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. We are reaching out today with an exciting update regarding our Transition Year fundraising efforts for Barretstown, an exceptional organisation that supports children living with serious illnesses.
We are thrilled to inform you that our small group of 23 students is now incredibly close to achieving our target fundraising goal for Barretstown with over €10,000 of €12,000 raised! Together, we have come a long way in making a positive impact on the lives of these courageous children, and we are determined to reach the finish line.
Barretstown has been a beacon of hope for countless children facing serious health challenges. It offers a unique and transformative experience through its therapeutic recreation programs, where children can forget about their illness and simply be kids again. These programs provide an opportunity for them to laugh, play, and discover joy, fostering their self-confidence and resilience.
However, to ensure that Barretstown continues to bring laughter and healing to even more children, we need your support. We kindly ask you to consider making a donation towards our fundraising efforts. Every contribution, big or small, will make a significant difference in the lives of these brave young individuals.
Here are a few ways you can help:
Online Donation: Visit our dedicated fundraising page; Naas CBS JustGiving Donation Page to make a secure online donation. You can choose the amount that suits your budget and comfort level. Every donation, regardless of size, is immensely appreciated.
Spread the Word: Share our fundraising campaign with your extended network of family, friends, and colleagues who may be interested in contributing to this worthy cause. A simple social media post or email can go a long way in raising awareness and garnering support.
We firmly believe that by working together, we can reach our fundraising target and make a tangible impact on the lives of these exceptional children. Every donation received will help Barretstown continue its vital work and bring smiles to the faces of these young warriors.
Please remember that your contribution is not only a testament to your compassion and generosity, but it also sets an incredible example for our children to learn the value of giving and helping those in need. Together, let's instill in them the importance of empathy and making a positive difference in the world.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering this request. Your support means the world to us and to the children we aim to support. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.
With sincere gratitude,
Naas CBS TY Barretstown Group
