For parents/guardians:
We are planning to provide a range of supports for parents/guardians which will include a podcast series and a suite of webinars. In order to inform these developments, we are circulating a ‘snap survey’ to parents/guardians to hear from them about the mental health issues they are most concerned about/interested in. We will also host both in-person and online consultation focus groups with parents at the end of January and early February to build further on the data we get via the survey.
We invite you to share the link to this survey with parents and through your school’s Parents Association. The views of parents/guardians are very important in helping us to provide a range of supports most relevant for them. Please note, this survey closes on 5th February.
Status Red Alert: Schools closed on Friday 24 January.
Due to the extreme nature of Storm Éowyn and the threat of multi-hazard weather events on Friday 24 January, Met Éireann has confirmed a red weather warning. Based on this, the National Emergency Coordination Group has advised that all primary and post-primary schools in red warning areas will close for the duration of the red warning.
While the red weather warnings are expected to end between 10am and 3pm on Friday in different counties, schools will remain closed on Friday. Travel is not possible during the red warning period. After the red warning expires, safety checks may be needed to assess whether any damage has occurred and to ensure the safety of school communities, and parents and the school community would need time to prepare to return to school. Because of these factors, concerns about safe transport and the unpredictable nature of the red warnings, the department recognises that it is not possible or practical for schools in red warning areas to open on Friday.
Holy Faith will be closed Friday 24th Jan and will not be open for any students.

As part of the government sanction for the scheme the Department has committed to an evaluation of the scheme. An important part of the evaluation is to gather information and feedback from key stakeholders on their experience of the scheme. Teachers are important stakeholders in this scheme as they stand to experience firsthand the effects of the scheme both from the point of view of all of their pupils having access to books and from any possible involvement in the organisation of the scheme in the school.
To support the evaluation, the Department of Education, in consultation with the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform, have developed a short feedback survey for parents.
The survey is anonymous, and all data collected will be aggregated if used in any publication.
