Final day of the TY Trip

For the final day of the TY trip the students did a walking tour of Belfast where they learned about the Troubles. Walking through the peace wall from the Falls to the Shankhill road they heard about the history and visited some of the many murals. It was an eye opening and truly engaging experience for everyone. This was followed by a bit of retail therapy and the final bus journey home. The students were a credit to themselves, the school and their families and we hope that they made memories that will last far beyond their days in Scoil Mhuire.

Well done to all who participated in this year’s drama production The Crucible. It was a fantastic success and everyone did both themselves and the school proud. With a cast of twenty actors we needed a great backstage crew and we got it, I would like to pay thanks to those who particularly helpful; Emma Jane Power, Aoife O’ Donoghue, Maria Price, Grainne O’ Gorman, Nikita Trant, Danielle Grehan, Aislinn Corbett, Joanne Deay, Athena Fusciardi and Alix Weld. To the construction who did a great job Evan Kelly, Eoghan O Haire, Dylan Waldron, Jordan Davies, Conal McCourt Flynn and Cian Burke. A special thanks must go to Cian McKeon and Luke Brennan who took time out from their busy schedules to help us. Well done to the cast who came in over the mid-term break and worked tremendously hard but succeeded in producing a great show that will live long in the memory. Peter Carr.

Green Schools - Green Flag

Our 1st Green Flag: History for Scoil Mhuire  After 2 years of hard-work and dedication, Scoil Mhuire’s Green Schools committee were honoured to receive the school’s first Green Flag under the theme of litter and waste. The committee, lead by Dylan, Malwina and Robyn (pictured) have campaigned for a change in student attitudes towards waste management, litter prevention and climate change within our school. The honour of receiving this award is testament to the leadership and drive they have shown since commencing this project in 2017. Our school now has clearly segregated waste bins in student common areas, reusable water bottles are provided for incoming first years and awareness of climate issues is on the increase. Sincere thanks to the Board of Management along with the school community for their help and support. The departing 6th Years hope that their legacy will continue through the work of the upcoming committee and urge both new 1st years and existing students to volunteer their time to work for change. A special word of thanks to Ms Kennedy for her guidance and support for our Green Schools team. Well done to all!
