Wednesday 12th March was this year's school captain's day in HFSS and our school captain Mia O Connor chose 'healthy body, healthy mind' as her theme. Mia created the most wonderful and energetic day for our school community. She taught the whole school how to 'cha cha' and 'Jive' in the gym, created fabulous memories in the classroom as class groups participated in 'Just Dance' competitions and created 'self-care guides' with personal targets for 2023. Everyone appeared to have thoroughly enjoyed the day and the icing on the cake was when DWTS (now winner) Carl Mullen and Emily Barker joined our whole school assembly for a Q&A session and performed one of their dances. On Behalf of the entire school, we would like to thank Mia for creating a truly memorable day in HFSS.

Congratulations to the 6th year music class, the choir, the trad group and members of the 3rd and 5th year music classes on a very enjoyable performance at this year’s spring concert. Everyone sang and played brilliantly and the evening was beautifully presented by Melodie Aremu and Aoibhinn Bridge. We were treated to a lovely mix of classical, baroque, romantic, jazz, pop and traditional music which reflected the diverse interests and talents of our students. Míle Buíochas to all the teachers who helped out.

La Semaine de la Langue française et de la Francophonie took place from the 18th to the 26th of March this year. This week is about celebrating French language and culture with events organised throughout France and all over the world.

To mark this celebration in Holy Family this year we had some activities in French classes throughout the week, organised by our French assistant, Laura.

Our first-year students took part in a French quiz. Bravo à l’équipe gagnante ! In second year, we set up un restaurant français and students ordered food in French. Our 3rd year students had some delicious crêpes fait-maison by Laura. In fifth year, we had a treasure hunt around the school and students in 6th year took part in a listening activity and some vocabulary games in class.

A great day was had by 6th year students on a fresh and sunny spring day in Dublin.

To support students with their Leaving Cert English course Cyclone Repertoire put on a stirring performance/workshop of 'The Macbeth Session - People Before Profit' in the Helix Theatre. Lead performer Marcus Bale was gracious enough to take a photo with us in front of the DCU sign.

Student ambassadors of DCU also gave an in-depth tour of the campus as well as an insight into some courses on offer such as sports, biochemistry among others.

Thanks to all involved for making this such a worthwhile day.

Congratulations to Paulina Witek (6th year) and Leah O’Toole (2nd year), both finalists in the Relove Fashion competition. Paulina and Leah’s outfits were chosen as 2 of 22 finalists picked from hundreds of entries. The final took place on Thursday 23rd March at the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun where their creations were on display and highly commended for their style, creativity and tailoring skills.

The Relove Fashion Competition was developed in response to the growing environmental and social impacts of the Fashion Industry and the need for change. It encourages applicants to take a deeper look at how their clothing is made and challenges them to explore creative reuse options such as upcycling, repairs, alterations and mending.

Students are asked to use their creative design skills to create a sustainable and wearable outfit. Entrants should source clothing from a charity shop, swap shop or reuse items already available at home.

A wonderful achievement to reach the final, well done Paulina and Leah.
