Second Year student Tiernán Stevenson was in Wexford today at with his BT Young Scientist project on Electricity Generator.. The event was hosted by the Dept of Agriculture and the Assistant Secretary General Mr Colm Hayes will conclude with a ceremony presenting a Certificate of Achievement to all students and schools
This event was an invitation to students who have exhibited at the Young Scientist Competition 8th – 11th January 2020 to an event which we propose to host in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine on the morning of Friday February 28th. This event, to be hosted at our Wexford building on the Johnstown Castle estate, is for schools in the South East Region who have students with an agriculture or environment related project in this year’s competition.
The students were given the opportunity to demonstrate their project in an exhibition space in our building where staff from this Department and its Agencies would have an opportunity to engage with the students and discuss their findings. This would be a learning opportunity for the students concerned whereby they would have the opportunity to engage with us on their findings while also allowing us to recognise the innovation and hard work of the students. We will conclude the event with a ceremony marking the achievement of the students and their schools.
Well done Tiernan and his Teacher Mr Joyce

Our Green schools committee had a great day out today in Waterford. They visited Grow HQ and heard a lot about the importance of growing your own food. They had an enjoyable walk and appreciated the nature all around them. Well done to these students for the active role they play in Green schools in BCS.

Blackwater CS travelled to Danesfort today to take on Castlecomer CS in the first round of the ACCS U18 hurling competition. Played in very good conditions, BCS started off well and had the first two scores of the game through Sean Hickey and Aaron Ryan points. Castlecomer responded but BCS found themselves ahead 1-5 to 0-2 after 20 minutes following a superb goal by Sean Hickey. Castlecomer replied soon after with a goal of their own to leave the half time score reading BCS 1-7 to 1-4 Castlecomer.
The second half saw the intensity level rise as the sides sought to gain the upper hand. Both sides went score for score until a much more direct approach earned two goals for Castlecomer. BCS fought back to add points through the impressive Cathal Murphy and Aaron Ryan. The game finished level on a scoreline of BCS 1-16 to 3-10 Castlecomer.
We take on St. John the Baptist, Hospital in the next round.
