Well done to Ms. Connie Burke, Mr O’Regan and our very talented students for all their hard work in bringing together a wonderful ceolchoirm of music and song for the school community for Seachtain Na Gaeilge. All year groups and musical genres were represented with a particular emphasis on Irish music and culture. It was an afternoon of celebration of enormous talent we have in SJC and we are very proud of all involved. There will be more photos to follow.

Written by Paul Shaughnessey Connacht Senior A Championship Semi-Final. Rice College 2-16 – 1-13 Saint Jarlath’s college. St. Jarlath’s missed out narrowly for a spot in this year’s Connacht final at the hands of a strong Rice College side. The sides were deadlocked early on with the score at 0-4 a piece with Tony Gill, Matthew Cooley and Darragh Silke on target. The Boys in Blue began to find their groove hitting 1-1 in quick succession with Conor Newell drilling the ball into the Westport net and sharpshooter Silke kept the scoreboard ticking once again. In the final ten minutes of the first half Rice outscored the Tuam side 0-5 – 0-3 with Matthew Cooley, Keelan Creaven and Eoin Mannion notching over points. St. Jarlath’s led 1-08 – 0-9 at the interval. Straight after the break Rice college delivered a long ball with the full forward punching the ball to the back of the net. The clinical Tony Gill responded to have the sides back level. The victors hit their purple after that scoring a quick-fire 1-02. The Tuam side tried their best to get back into the game slotting over points courtesy of Darragh Silke, Tony Gill, Keelan Creaven and Damien Boyle. Midway through the second half SJC were dealt with a major blow when Alan Morris received his marching orders for a second yellow card. St. Jarlaths: Donie Halloran, Dean Hynes, Damien Boyle (0-1), Joe Staed, Jack Kirrane, Keelan Creaven (0-2), Alan Morris, Hugh McDonagh, Conor O’Neill, Sean Raftery, Darragh Silke (0-5), Conor Newell (1-0), Matthew Cooley (0-2), Eoin Mannion (0-1), Tony Gill (0-4). Subs used: Cathal King, Liam Kelly, Conor Halbard.
