Well done to the student speakers Charlie Hughes and Jack Cunningham who were amazing.

Student Council Influencer Election.

On Tuesday, the student council held an influencer election, which the whole school took part in.

This mock election was intended to teach students in the school how Ireland’s PR-STV system works in elections.

1st, 2nd and 3rd year students filled out their ballots in their classrooms throughout the day. 4th, 5th and 6th years completed a more realistic process in the assembly. They had their names checked on the register, received their ballot papers and filled them out in the voting booths. There were 9 candidates from TikTok and Youtube competing for 3 seats. On Wednesday, members of the student council undertook the process of counting and calculating the votes using the PR-STV system.

In total 739 people participated, with only a 5% spoilage rate. This set the quota at 175 votes. Candidate Nasti, an Irish food reviewer on TikTok, won 30.62% of the first preference votes making him the first to be elected. The second seat was filled in round 5 when Mr Beast, a popular American youtuber, reached the quota. Round 8 saw Protein Bor, an Irish TikToker, become the last candidate to fill a seat.

The student council would like to thank everyone for participating and allowing the process to go so smoothly.

Dear Students and Parents,

Please see the attached video from the State Examinations Commission which sets out some very important information for candidates in relation to the completion of their examinations.

The video contains key messages for the candidates including:

  • how they should provide key information on the front cover of their answer books that is essential to ensure their scripts are processed accurately and effectively
  • and the correct writing instruments they should use in the examinations to ensure examiners can read their complete scripts.

The video can be found under the heading "information for candidates " at   https://www.examinations.ie/?l=en&mc=ex&sc=e23

Our traditional TY German Exchange took place between 27th April and 4th May. Our students and their guests from Ahrweiler in Germany took part in many activities during that week. We went to Brittas Bay for surfing lessons, we got a guided tour of Naas and we went to Croke Park and Dublin. Of course our guests went to Punchestown with their hosts. Lots of fun and a great time was had by all and hopefully some of the new friendships between the German and Irish students will last for many years. Thank you very much to all our host families. Without you this wouldn't be possible. German Department M. Lonergan
