Irish Olympiad of Experimental Science (IrEOES). IrEOES is an individual science competition for Transition Year and Fifth Year students. The first round takes place online and is open to any eligible student who wants to take part. Students are eligible if they:

· live and go to school in Ireland, and

· are in Transition Year or in Fifth Year, and

· were born on or after 1st January 2006.

The first round of IrEOES2023 will take place on Saturday November 12th 2022, online between 10.00 and 11.00 a.m. Students select one subject: biology, chemistry, or physics as their chosen subject. The top performers will qualify for Round 2 that will take place in person in DCU later this year.

We hope to secure funding to participate in the third European Olympiad of Experimental Science (EOES), to be held in the first week of May, in Riga (Latvia). EOES is an annual science olympiad for school students from the European Union, organised by a member country of EOES NPO. In 2023 more than 20 countries are expected to each enter two teams of three participants. At EOES each team carries out two experimental tasks that combine biology, chemistry, and physics, and give students the opportunity to feel like real researchers and to pit their science skills against those of the other participants. EOES offers participants the opportunity to share experiences and meet and befriend like-minded students from all over the EU.

Further information, including links to the registration forms and an FAQ, can be found at https://castel.ie/olympiads. Feel free to email IrEOES@dcu.ie for further information.

Our Junior Camogie team had their first game against Castleknock in Saint Anne’s Park on Wednesday 12th October. This was the first HFC camogie outing in over five years. The half-time score was 2-5 to 0-2. However, an improved second half performance saw the girls gel better as a team and fought hard for every ball. The game ended in a narrow defeat on a score line of 3-11 to 1-8. Well done to all involved and a big thank you to Ms Furlong and Ms Flanagan for their work with the team.
