Pre Exam Update

Pre Leaving and Junior Cert Exams We have decided to defer the start dates for the Pre Leaving and Pre Junior Exams. These were due to start on the 1st of February, the new proposed start date will be Monday 22nd of February all going well. This is the week after Mid term . This we feel will allow the students better preparation time before the exams. We hope that schools will be back for the two weeks before the mid term which is the current plan by the Dept. We are in contact with Examcraft with regard to arrangements should there be changes to return schedule.

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students, I hope this letter finds you and your family well. Regarding distance learning, please check your child’s E-Portal regularly. Teachers will be recording online engagement and virtual behaviour on eportal regularly to keep you informed. All school policies and the code of conduct must be adhered to in all virtual learning settings. www.staugustines.ie/about-us/school-policies - Online Learning Etiquette Please ensure your child is aware of the following online learning expectations in all classes. ● Microphones must be muted on entry to all virtual platforms. Students are only to un-mute themselves when directed to do so by their subject teacher. ● Student cameras must be turned on showing the student. ● Students must enter the virtual classroom using their own name. ● No screen-share/annotation is permitted. ● Recording is not permitted. ● Taking pictures is not permitted. In the event of any of the above taking place the student may be removed from the class. Please be aware that all teachers are taking a roll call and will be monitoring class engagement ongoing. - Online Engagement/Behaviour Online events will be recorded on eportal in the following format. Bear in mind that the purpose of this is to address non engagement and virtual mis-conduct. Therefore good online engagement may be inferred if there is no entry. 1. No online engagement. 2. Partial online engagement. 3. Good online engagement 4. Virtual mis-conduct. Please ensure to; 1. Check your child’s student timetable. (Please note: students are following their regular school timetable. Live classes (when occuring), recorded classes, pre-scheduled assignments, tasks will be scheduled at class time.) 2. Ensure your child has joined classes for all subjects. The platforms being used are; googleclassroom/googlemeet/Zoom/edmodo. 3. Please check E-Portal regularly for up to-date information regarding your child’s online engagement and online behaviour. 4. Please check the School APP regularly to ensure you do not miss important information. 5. If you notice that your child is not engaging then please work with them to achieve engagement and please contact us should you require support or assistance with this. I would like to commend all the excellent work that is happening at home, distance learning. Dear Parents/ Guardians, It has come to our attention that some emails being sent by the school are not being received. Can you please ensure that you check both your junk and spam folders in case any emails have ended up there instead of your inbox. If there is emails from the school in the junk/spam inbox you should open the email and tick ‘Not Spam/Junk’ to ensure they don’t end up here in future. RTÉ Launches Eye On Nature, A New Wildlife Photography Competition

Cash prize for winner, plus finalists exhibited at Botanic Gardens WATCH PROMO: youtu.be/9o_mEtCbuTE RTÉ has joined forces with The National Botanic Gardens to launch an exciting new wildlife photographic competition, ‘Eye On Nature’. The overall winner will receive a cash prize of €1000 and the 12 finalists’ photographs will be exhibited at The Botanic Gardens from mid-March. The finalists will also receive an annual family pass to all OPW attractions. So if you’ve snapped a beautiful butterfly, a delightful deer or a fantastic fox in 2020 you could be in with a chance of winning. The opening date for ‘Eye on Nature’ is today, Monday 11 January, and people have until Friday 5 February to submit their entries to rte.ie/eyeonnature, where full details are available plus terms and conditions and photography requirements (largest resolution possible, please)

HealthFest is a free event tailored to teenagers (4th and 5th years primarily), which has successfully run for 4 years. It is the only event of its kind, featuring experts in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and mental wellbeing. This year’s event is being brought to you virtually – as He@lthFest – a FREE festival of fun-filled demonstrations and engaging talks for teachers and their students. We are using a very interactive platform to deliver credible information from Irish experts; and where students can visit exhibitor stands, win fantastic prizes and even take place in a virtual scavenger hunt!
