Let’s Talk Climate Action!

TY students had a Zoom event called Let’s Talk Climate Action workshop it was a highly visual and informative workshop where students gained a deeper understanding of the need for climate action. The workshop covered the following topics • Climate science • Carbon footprint • Culture and climate • Climate crossroads – future policy options for climate action • The Youth Movement for Climate Action Gavin Harte delivered the zoom meeting many thanks also to Ella Ryan in Waterford County Council.

Mary Elmes Prize

Holocaust Education Trust Ireland in association with the History Teachers Association of Ireland The Mary Elmes Prize in Holocaust Studies for Transition Year students The prize is named after Mary Elmes, an Irish woman who saved scores of children during the Holocaust. In 2013, Mary was awarded Righteous Among The Nations (posthumously) by Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Remembrance Authority in Israel. She is the first Irish person to be so honoured. Students are invited to complete a project or a piece of work to raise awareness about the Holocaust, inspired by Mary Elmes and her story. Submission date: 18 December 2020. TY Coordinators will be asked to select one entry from the history essay category, and one entry from the artistic, musical and literary responses (4-entries). hetireland.org/programmes/mary-elmes-prize/ for more details.
