Fundraiser Update - Message from 4/3

For YSI we chose the prevention of cruelty to dogs as our cause. After having a visit from
our YSI coordinator, we decided that supporting MADRA would be the best way to achieve
our goal. We came up with the idea for our fundraiser during YSI class. We remembered
going to the canteen in 1st and 2nd year and decided that we should reopen the canteen for
a few days. It hadn’t been opened since March 2020 so the current 1st and 2nd years never
had a chance to experience it. We thought of selling sandwiches or baked goods, but
eventually we settled on the idea of smoothies. Even though we had limited time to plan it,
everyone in the class put a lot of effort in to make it work. Thank you to everyone who
donated over the three days, we (and the dogs) really appreciate it! We would also like to
thank Mr. Collins, Mr. O Doherty and Karen for their help and support. Overall, our fundraiser
was a great success, we raised a total of €650 for MADRA. Thank you to Dawn (and Sadie)
for visiting us and providing an insight into all of the important work that is done at MADRA.
A big thank you again to everyone who supported us! - TY Class 4/3

Class 4/1 completed their biodiversity garden project today under the guidance of Rob, craft gardener with the city council.
This garden is a culmination of planning and design by classes 4/3 and 4/2 with 4/1 putting fulfilling the design.
A grass path was created alongside a 'wave' flowerbed, representing our connection to the sea in Salthill. Seeds were planted which will entice birds, butterflies and bees into the garden.
This garden is a collaboration with our green schools committee who also have long-term ideas and projects on the go to continue to enhance this area.
Well done to all of the students involved and also to Ms. Steede Duffy.

A new 6-part docu-series, 'Keep it up' starts soon on RTÉ. The series puts star basketball player and Ireland’s favourite P.E. teacher Emer O’Neill’s theory to the test as she brings together 9 teenage girls who have either given up sport or never played. The results are explosive. The girls will have their say and even with all opportunities, will they Keep it Up?
The show follows the teenagers on their journeys both individually and as a group as they explore the complex relationships many young girls have with sport.

For the first time in two years, our girls are enjoying a well deserved trip abroad.
48 students and 5 teachers are soaking up the sun and having an active and fun time in Barcelona. This picture shows the group in the Nu Camp, home of Barcelona FC.
This was followed by a trip to Montserrat and swimming in the sea.
We all hope that our students and teachers enjoy the rest of the trip.
Thank you to Ms. Knight who has organised the trip and to Ms. Barrett, Ms. Cradock, Ms. McGrath and Ms. Mooney who have all made this trip possible.
