A huge thank you to Wicklow county footballer, Jackie Kinch who trained our U14 football team this afternoon. Jackie worked on skills with the girls and shared valuable tips in advance of their Leinster semi final clash with Holy Family Secondary School, Newbridge tomorrow. The girls really appreciated Jackie giving up her free time to help out. Let’s hope it will pay off tomorrow in Newbridge!

TY students Robert Davey and Shane Browne and their mini-company ‘The Chop’, represented Coláiste Bhríde and County Wicklow at the National final of the Student Enterprise Programme, in Croke Park on Friday, 3rd May. The victory at county level secured them the place in this final. Their business report was scrutinised by judges Peggy McGlynn, Orla O’Carroll and John O’Dea prior to the final and on the day each judge individually interviewed ‘The Chop’. The judges were not only greatly impressed by the product and its associated story but also the students drive and enthusiasm. It certainly was not an easy task for the three judges to narrow down placings from the high quality, innovative business ideas. ‘The Chop’ was unlucky not to pick up a placing but were superb ambassadors for the school, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. On Wednesday 1st May, one hundred and thirty Third Year students went on a school trip to Tayto Park and they were accompanied by six teachers. The weather was beautiful all day and the students had access to all the rides in the park. The students were spun and shaken and were seen running back to the start of the rides to go again. There were activities for all level of daredevil and several teachers took part in the activities. We all had a wonderful day out, and enjoyed our taste of summer. It was great for students to get a day of fun as they face into their JC exams in the coming weeks, for which we wish them the very best.

As 2018 champions, CB Carnew was delighted to host the KWETB Let’s Spellebrate final 2019. 14 teams took part and we were delighted to welcome teams from Glenart College, Arklow and Confey College Leixlip. After a number of hotly contested rounds, it came down to the last round to separate the teams. The CB team of Isabella Ní Chonaill, Clodagh Dowse, Freddie Swords and Euan Bailey were the overall winners. With 3 teams sharing second place; a team from Glenart, a team from Confey and a TY team from CB. The words that eventually separated the teams were tranquillity, paraphernalia, Caribbean, endeavour and rhinoceros. We delighted to welcome Nicola from Edco who sponsor our perpetual trophy to present it to the winners on the day. KWETB Chief Executive, Dr. Deirdre Keyes also addressed the students and emphasised the importance of spelling in everyday life. This event was organised and ran by the Student Council, with Chairperson Ciara Shannon acting as MC on the day. We look forward to hosting Let’s Spellebrate 2020!
