Congratulations to our current leaving cert student Andrew Kingston who won the ILCA(laser) Ireland Senior National Championships for sailing at the National YC in Dún Laoighre recently. At the event Andrew beat current Olympian, Eve McMahon.
Previous winners of this prestigious title include Annalise Murphy, Olympic silver medallist (Rio 2016 Olympics) and Finn Lynch, another current Olympian.
Well done to Andrew and we wish him the very best of luck in his future sailing endeavours!
Congratulations to teaching staff member Fran Keane on his fantastic Olympic success in Paris.
Fran is the Head Men’s Coach who coached the Men’s heavyweight Double Scull who won Bronze in the Paris Olympics.
Fran has been on career break from teaching for the last five years, working with rowing Ireland in different roles and playing a significant part in bringing rowing from strength to strength in Ireland.
All in Pres. are very proud of Fran’s achievements and we look forward to welcoming him back to Pres. for the start of the school year.
Well done Fran!
Pres RC raced this past weekend at the National Rowing Championships at the National Rowing Centre, Inniscarra and it was another successful outing for the club at the end of season showcase for Irish rowing.
Our Junior 18s had great rows to claim bronze in the pair and silver in the four for the second year running, missing out on gold by 1.9 seconds, doing themselves proud with two gutsy performances. Sam Hernan and Leo Porion made up the pair, and were joined by Matthew O’Connor, Darach Fanning and cox Odran Murphy for the four.
We had strong rows from our J15/16 squad who continue to gain valuable racing experience, and Andrew O’Leary was unlucky in the Intermediate Scull to narrowly miss out on the final by .5 seconds!
We’d like to thank all the athletes, coaches and parents who’ve helped make 2023/24 such a great season.
We’ll be sad to see our 6th years move on but we hope they’ll come back to visit us in our new home.
It’s over to our internationals now for the rest of the summer!
See everyone in September!
Congratulations to Transition Year student, JuYoung Lee who competed in the IrMO (Irish Maths Olympiad), during Term 2 of the school year.
The top 12 students continued to the IMO (International Maths Olympiad), which is designed around proof based maths problems.
Hopefully, in the coming years, more students from Pres will participate in this Maths Olympiad.
JuYoung is very appreciative of the support and encouragement given to him by Maths teacher, Mr. Sean O’Brien.
Well done to both JuYoung and Mr. O’Brien!
Congratulations to Jack Carroll of 6th Year who is this year's winner of the PBC Gold Medal Essay. There were three titles to choose from and Jack showcased his love and passion for nature in his choice of the descriptive essay on an autumn evening. Sam Browne, PBC Librarian and the judge with the casting vote commented:
“Jack’s essay captures perfectly the transient nature of autumn, and of nature itself. Placing himself at a crossroads between summer and winter, he deftly describes a changing world around him. Clear, crisp writing detailing a beautiful, liminal space.”
The Silver Medal was a close call between Ben Mullane and Dylan Swihart who both chose the personal essay on 'Friendships, flashbacks and untangling school memories.' Ben took it by a whisker with one of the judges commenting:
“Ben takes on the theme of nostalgia from a fresh perspective. His essay on friendships is a charming meditation on losing what is familiar and meeting new challenges in life.”
Bronze was richly deserved by Dylan Swihart who also reminisced on his 6 years in Pres, charting them year by year and giving a quirky, sometimes humorous, sometimes wistful insight into what it means to go to this school.
Congratulations to one and all and to all their English teachers who have been on the journey with them.
