Feedback from a participant on last months’ session:

I just attended the zoom call and I thought it was excellent. I am currently completing a Masters in UL in Guidance Counselling and I am teaching in Cork. I thought the advice was so practical and would be easy to implement in my work and very relevant.  I am also a parent and it will benefit my parenting. I loved the idea of a relapse signature this is a concept I know I will use. Just wanted to say thank you

Kind regards,

Caroline Lafferty

St. Mary’s CBS Portlaoise 38 Creagh College, Gorey 7

The CBS U16 Boys headed to Donnybrook last Thursday for the final of the Leinster Rugby Development Sheild. The opponents on the day were Creagh College from Gorey in Co Wexford. After hard fought quarter and semifinal wins the CBS lads were not just turning up to make up the numbers they were here to win.

This group of players were disappointed to not be contesting the U16 Cup which the CBS won last year but they felt they could make amends by winning the Shield at the very least. If winning the Shield was the plan, they certainly started the right way about it. Dan Downey got the scoring open for the CBS with some great speed and footwork to beat the Creagh College defence, up stood David Timmons to slot over the conversion.

This was followed up by some impressive carrying and forward work which opened space for Captain and No 8 Shane Foley to power his way over for the CBS second try. This was it for scoring for the first half and it remained 12 nil heading into the break. Creagh college threw everything bar the kitchen sink at the CBS defence, but the lads held out up to half time.

Creagh college needed to start strong in the second half but it was Ciaran Dunne for the CBS who made an impressive line break opening up the Creagh defence to let Sean Touhy who replaced Timmons in for his first and the CBS 3rd Try. The CBS lads now had all the momentum and Aaron Fitzpatrick came very close but it was quick thinking to go wide from the CBS that would see Downey in for his second and the conversion by Eoghan Deegan.

Another substitution from the CBS saw the injured Dan Murrell replaced by Joe Larkin and Joe had an instant impression on the game, getting the ball on the wing and speeding home showing power and strength to get in under the posts with Deegan adding the conversion.

The CBS boys were not done yet and it was some quick thinking from scrum half Paul Byrne that would see him pick from the bottom of the ruck and power over for a very well deserved try, Byrne’s fast work at scrum half all day kept the CBS on the front foot making it impossible for Creagh to get into the game. Larkin stepped up to slot the conversion from Byrne’s try to top an impressive performance.

Creagh college would get in for a consolation try but the damage was done at this stage.

Lots of CBS players impressed on the day but two men stood out above all for impressive all-round performances and fantastic leadership, and these were Captain Shane Foley and the tackling machine Dan Downey.

A fantastic finish to the year for this hard-working squad with only 23 allowed be named on the day another 23 lads have been involved all year and were keeping the pressure on those starting for positions. The future of Rugby in the CBS is very bright #fromeachtheirbest
