Well done to our under 15 girls team who put in a good performance against Dunboyne last week. Although the result didn't go the girls way, they displayed great skill and determination throughout the game. This was the teams first game of the year, but they showed great promise and glimpses of what they can do. There were excellent performances from Ava Duignan, Ciara Boylan, Chloe Doherty and Saoirse Lane. Well done to all involved.

On the 16th and 17th of November last, eighteen leaving cert History students accompanied by Ms. O'Mahony and Mr. Maxwell took part in a History trip to Northern Ireland. The students whilst in Belfast visited Stormont Parliament Buildings, City Hall and the Ulster Museum. On the second day the group visited the historic walled maiden city of Derry and engaged in tours of the walls themselves (delivered by Gerry Lynn), the Museum of Free Derry and the Apprentice Boys of Derry Memorial Hall. The trip was found to be a most enjoyable and educational experience  by all.

Parent/Guardian Update: Week 11: Friday 17 November 2023

Dear parents and guardians,

It was a short week for our students due to both Storm Debi and to the training day on Tuesday when all staff had to attend subject training for the new Junior Cycle curriculum.
Teachers are currently correcting exams from last week and we hope to get reports out to you two weeks from now.

Positive Behaviour Team
We had our first meeting yesterday and went through survey results from students and parents.  I'm afraid we only got back 40 parents responses to our survey so if you can take a moment to fill it out, it means that you will have a voice in the new code of Behaviour that we implement for the coming year.  We will be talking with a focus group of parents in relation to this work so that students, staff and parents are all involved in the process.
Please complete at your earliest convenience.

UDL
We are exploring a collaboration with Maynooth University around Universal Design for Learning, an approach to learning which is about designing equitable, inclusive learning experiences for students and staff.  We will keep you updated.

Extra Curricular Sports
Our 1st and 2nd Year boys away for a football  match yesterday, not the result they might have liked but great to get them out!
Richard Thompson's 1st and 2nd Year GAA match had a great win.
Freddie Williams had a match for the junior girls this week too, they enjoyed themselves even if the result didn't go their way.

Scifest
Joanne Dowling and Leah di Lucia had a fantastic event yesterday for Scifest in the Lecture Rooms.  Twelve groups of 2nd, 3rd and TY students showcased their projects and we had three judges in to critique their work.
Scifest winners are as follows:
1st Place: Nick Keogh, Dean O'Meara, Jack O'Connor (all TY)
Project: Which material do cress seeds grow best in?
Runner Up: Clodagh Cunningham (2nd Year)
Project: How different sugary drinks affect plaque build up.
Special Scifest Prize: Charlotte Colgan and Lauren Connolly (3rd Year)
            Project: Diabetes (Type 1)

O'Growney's National School came to visit the exhibition and had ten of their own projects with them.  Delighted to say that the standard was fabulous and even more so as the winners are all our future students!

Meath Student Enterprise Challenge
Maggie McGrory's TYs reached the semi-finals of the Meath Student Enterprise Challenge on Tuesday in Kells where four groups presented their ideas to judges.  It's great to see students willing to participate particularly on a day where school was closed.

History Trip
Roger Maxwell and Eimir O'Mahony have taken 5th and 6th Year History students for their Belfast/Derry trip overnight, a great learning opportunity for the students.

Parents/guardian volunteers for matches
It would be wonderful if we could get a few more volunteers to accompany coaches and students to matches so that we are able to get the students out to as many as possible.  We can't afford to release two or more teachers from classes but if we had a volunteer available to be a responsible adult, it would be great for all concerned.  I do the garda vetting process here myself so if you might be available please email me at cgarrihy@athboycs.ie.

Meath Garda Awards
Our friendly garda was in this week to tell us about the Youth Awards for youths who make a positive contribution to their community, making it a better place to live.  We will be nominating some of our students but nominations can be made by anyone in the community.  We have forms available at reception or you can email for one.
Have a lovely weekend.
