What an incredible night of celebration we had at our Gaisce Awards Ceremony last night! The atmosphere was nothing short of electric, filled with pride, excitement, and the unmistakable glow of success. We witnessed some shining stars of our school community from various year groups being recognised for their achievements, and it was a momentous occasion for us all.
We heard memorable accounts of the challenges undertaken from Conor Muldoon, Fiona Boylan, Eoin Kelleher and Abbie Reilly. Mary Yore, Gaisce RDO, commended our students as they recounted a diverse range of challenges. Challenges included the Camio Trip, the Waterford Greenway Cycle as well as their community involement with organisations such as the Tidy Towns and Speical Hands Group here in Athboy. Katie Mc Cormack spoke of the work carried out by students that contributed to the success of Athboy in the recent Tidy Towns competition.
As we reflect on the success of the evening, let's carry this positive energy forward. Congratulations once again to all the award recipients, and thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Ceremony a great occasion including our PALs, Ms Mahony, Ms Dowling and Ms Mc Grory. A special word of thanks to the Prefects who warmly welcomed parents and served the refreshments. ( Rihanna Kilala, Hannah Mai O'Connor, Stephanie Quigley and Emily O' Looney)#gaisceaward

Dear parents/guardians,
Dear parents/guardians, this year in Athboy Community School a food collection is taking place in aid of Trim Family Resource Centre. Trim Family Resource Centre makes a significant contribution to our local area and food donations will allow them to help families in need this Christmas. Students have kindly offered to donate items of food for the cause. A box has been left in the school front reception area should any parents/guardians wish to make an extra donation of non-perishible food items. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Huge Congratulations to Ms Mc Grory and ' Buzz Pods' ( Dean O' Meara, Nick Keogh, Jessica Mc Kenna , Aimee Jones & Heidi Donohoe) on winning 1st Place in the Sustainable Business Category at the MEW Student Enterprise Challenge today.
The purpose of the competition is to encourage and reward entrepreneurial creativity, innovation and participation amongst the youth of Meath while also providing a platform for aspiring young entrepreneurs to engage with and learn from leading entrepreneurs and businesses from across the region.
Now in its tenth year, the MEW Student Enterprise Challenge is open to secondary school students of all years (individuals & teams). We have had some excellent entries over the last few years and hope to build on this next year. Well done to all involved. Keep an eye on the Meath Chronicle next week !
Dear parents and guardians,
We sent out a behaviour survey a few times over the past few weeks and some of you came back to say that the link was requiring that you log into an email account in order to access it.
We have been back and forth with our Office365 licencing company and our app company to see why as the settings on the form should not require you to log into anything.
I am assured that you should be able to access this link without that extra step.
I am attaching the link below and would appreciate it if you could try it and email me at cgarrihy@athboycs.ie if you have any issues with it.
Thanks in advance for taking the survey as it will help as we plan our new positive behaviour strategy.
Kind regards,
Clare
A group of 52 fifth and sixth year students from Athboy Community School and teachers Ms. Moran and Mr. Magner went to Maynooth University for an Open Day on Friday November 24th. The students enjoyed a host of talks and presentations on various courses and tours of the campus, library and other facilities. There were information stands to visit for most of the courses and faculties that the college has to offer and the Athboy group had the opportunity to speak to a host of lecturers and Maynooth students about the courses on offer and all aspects of college life. A very enjoyable and informative day was had by all.

Junior hurling boys won their match
Senior Hurling boys had a draw against Ashbourne.
Basketball
Both U16 and U19 Boys got through to the basketball semi-finals which were played at home today against Beaufort College. Luck was not with our U16's on the day and they faced a very talented opposition.
Our U19's fought tooth and nail, going down by 8 points in the third quarter but regained their composure to drive home a win in the final seconds of the game. Outstanding performance by Athboy CS and their coach Darragh Lowry! We have yet to get confirmation of details of the final which will be played in Carrickmacross.

2nd Years went on a day trip to Belfast visiting W5 and had a great day.
Open Day
NUI Maynooth have their Open Day today, Susan Moran brought a group of 5th and 6th Years to visit.
Use of Toilets
All students watched a presentation at their year group assemblies this week in relation to the use of toilets. We have amazing facilities here in the school but have found that some students have been misusing the toilet areas.
It was explained to students the health risks of vaping in general and we also made clear the health risks associated with eating/drinking in toilets and the germs that are harboured even in the cleanest facilities.
On a few occasion, the toilets have been damaged and have caused significant mess for our cleaners to fix. The practice of hanging out in the toilet is imtimidating for other students so we have asked students to use the facilities when needed and to restrict any one set of toilets to three at a time, while other wait in line for students to come out,
We asked all students to use the facilities before school up to 8.50am, at the break from 10.50am-11.10am, the lunch break from 1.10pm - 1.40pm and after school from 3.40pm. There is never longer than a two hour period between breaks.
According to a survey completed by 315 students last week, 118 said that learning was disrupted due to students leaving to go to the toilet out of class.
Students who need to use the toilet more regularly can get a year head note in the journal releasing them if they need to slip out. For other students, emergencies do arise and they can ask the teacher to go during class. We have found that some students ask to leave class several time a day and are sometimes meeting up with pals.
Students misusing the toilet may incur a lunchtime detention depending on the situation. We will send out a copy of our Toilet Policy in the coming weeks following consultation with our Parents Association. Do not hesitate to let us know if your child(ren) requires a note to leave class more frequently. It is a balancing act to manage students right to use toilets with the misuse of toilets, the loss of learning and the emotional impact of students feeling unsafe in their own school due to the actions of a very small number of students.
We will do our best to balance this by educating students as to why the rules are in place and in consistently applying them for the benefit of all.
