Dear parents and guardians,
 
I hope you had a good first week back to school/work, the evenings are a little brighter but the mornings are cold and dark still.  Some of our lovely students are tired and sluggish this week, so I would ask that you try to ensure that your children get a good sleep routine going for next week as it is really important in the next four weeks to midterm.  Please ensure they have school jackets, some are arriving without and it is cold/flu season.
 
Musical
Preparation for the musical are in full swing, do get your tickets, bring the family, it's going to be a great production.
 
CAO Evening
We invited parents/guardians of 6th Years in for a CAO talk last evening.  Thanks to those who were able to make it.
 
Semester 2 Assessments
We have made a change to the second semester assessments.  There will not be formal house exams for 1st, 2nd, TY or 5th Years.  Instead teachers will be assessing continuously throughout the semester.  Each subject teacher will provide students with a template showing how marks will be allocated.  Marks may given for the work done on CBAs, projects, public speaking, creative work or for mini tests or oral work.  All students have the opportunity to excel in these assessments and parents/guardians will get a report clearly showing the breakdown of marks for each subject's assessment.
 
2nd Year PTM
We will meet 2nd Year parents on Tuesday after school.
 
Incoming 1st Years
We will meet parents/guardians of incoming 1st Years (and students themselves) next Thursday evening and will have students in for assessment on Saturday 20 January.
 
 
Behaviour Team
Thanks to parents who came forward to join the Behaviour Team.  We will meet with parents next week on Tuesday at 2pm to share our work to date.  All welcome.
 
Uniform Review
I will be meeting with parents on Wednesday 12noon to discuss our uniform review.
 
Staff Meeting
We have a scheduled staff meeting on 23rd Jan to roll out our new  Behaviour Code to all staff, school may finish a little early that day.  More to follow.

2nd Year PTM Rotas

The 2nd Year PTM rotas have been formulated and can be viewed by logging back on to ptmorg.com and using the school and student password supplied earlier this week.

A copy of the individualised rota will be given to each participating student today.

Please note that teachers have a strict 5 minute slot with each parent, your cooperation with this would be greatly appreciated.

A Future Options Information Session for parents and students, hosted by Ms. Moran,  will take place on Thursday January 11th at 7pm in the school.

This talk will be of benefit to parents of 6th Years as it will provide information on post Leaving Certificate options -CAO, Apprenticeships, PLC courses.

The Addams Family Musical - 24th - 27th January@ 730pm

Rehearsals and preparations gather pace for our upcoming musical. Yesterday saw the arrival of our costumes.

This promises to be a great production and at €12 per ticket really good value for money. Tickets are available from the office or online through the school website.

Donations of raffle prizes through the school office would be gratefully received.

Please support the school community by purchasing tickets.

Dear parents and guardians,
 
Happy New Year to you all, I hope you had a restful holiday.
I am aware that there were issues with buses running for some areas due to icy conditions, hopefully this will not be repeated over the coming weeks.
 
I am looking for parent volunteers to get involved in two parent teams over the next few weeks.  The parent voice is hugely important to us,  so this is a chance to share yours. They are as follows:
1. Our new behaviour Code - some of you have volunteered already, I could do with one or two more so we have a broad range of ideas.  This will entail one or two meetings only during the day,.
2. Uniform Review - this team will look at the uniform for incoming 1st Years.  No families will be asked to buy any additional items for students already attending the school.  If you are interested in fabrics, fashion, economics etc.. your voice will be useful to us.  This will entail two or three meetings during the day/early evening also as students are involved also.
 
Please email cgarrihy@athboycs.ie to let me know of your interest in any of the above.
 
Early Opening
We have invited students to come into the GPA straight away in the mornings as of this week.  Students are asked to remain in the GPA until 8.30am as there is not sufficient staff to supervise on site, after which they can go to lockers and wander about as usual.
 
STEM Grant
I am delighted to announce that we were selected as one of the 82 secondary schools in Ireland as recipients of the STEM grant.  Well done to teacher Joanne Dowling and all of those who helped with the application.  Most of the funding should be with us soon and we can sit down an allocated that in wonderful ways!

TY work experience

Just an update on the TY work experience. Session 2 of work experience will  start this Friday 12th January & will run for 10 Fridays. TY students will also complete a block week of work experience which  starts on Mon 29th Jan.During the block week of work experience, TY students will NOT attend school for the week.Thanks
