A Chairde,

Leaving Cert students will sit their Irish mock oral exam on Monday 26th February. A timetable has been posted on Ms. Ní Raghallaigh’s classroom door and can be viewed on Teams. It is important that each student attends as it is worth 40%. It’s also a great opportunity to experience what the real exam will be like.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Teams Meeting for Parents/Guardians for 1st Years
Created : 09 Feb 2024, 5:14 PM
Archived : 09 Apr 2024, 12:00 AM

Hi all,

We would like to invite parents/guardians of 1st Year students to join us online for a Teams Meeting so we can introduce you to our new Learning (Behaviour) Code which is the result of consultation with parents, students, teachers and SNAs.

1st Years are doing a ten week pilot of the new code to trial it and see if how well it goes and if the students find it to be a positive experience.

We will issue an invitation for 20 February at 7pm to your child's Teams and will ensure that your child is able to join the call with you.  Your support for this work is really important and we would really appreciate your joining the call (you don't have to turn the camera on!)

I will send a reminder on Monday 19 February.

Kind regards,

Clare

Parent/Guardian Update: Friday 9 February 2024

Dear parents and guardians,

The Mock exams finished today for 3rd and 6th Years. Well done to all of the students for their perseverance and hard work.  Our 3rd Years, in particular, had their first experience of a formal exam in the PE Hall and were incredibly well behaved and cooperative throughout.
Thank you to our parents and guardians for getting them in for every exam and for supporting them through two difficult weeks.  A few lie ons are well deserved over midterm!

Third Year/TY Information Evening
We had a very good turn out on Wednesday evening for our Senior Cycle Information Evening.  There is a high level in interest in both our TY and LCA Programmes.  Students have until 21 February to fill out application forms prior to interviews.  Ms McGrory has sent out some information to parents who were unable to attend on the night.
Once we have completed the TY and LCA interviews we will focus on subject options for the traditional Leaving Cert, following the administration of the CAT 4 test on both 3rd Years and TYs, which will happen on the week of the 20 February.

Uniforms
Thanks for taking the survey sent out last week, your interest is greatly appreciated. This survey is in response to requests for a change particularly around the girls trousers.
I want to stress very clearly that no family will be asked to buy any new item of uniform for TY or 5th Year for September.
We will be making new uniform items available for purchase, but no family has to replace an item that is wearable next year.
The new uniform is cheaper, gender neutral, more comfortable and is very smart looking.  I hope you like it.  I will let you know when it is available and we will have samples on a mannequin in the months ahead.
The tracksuit is not changing.  We hope to offer shorts as an option but they will not be mandatory.

Learning Code
We will have an extended assembly for 1st Years pm on the first week back after midterm to teach them the new Learning (Behaviour) Code which focuses on positive behaviour through use of an Asset Portfolio for every student.  We will also be having a Teams meeting with 1st Year parents/guardians and their children (using the student device) on 20 Feb at 7pm to go through the Learning Code.

Lates Detentions
Students who arrive late to school twice in a week will get a detention from 26 February.  Next week at assemblies we will explain the rationale for this change to students during assemblies so they are aware of why punctuality matters and what sanctions will result from continuous lateness.  Families for whom there is a legitimate reason for not being able to get to school on time should email the year head.  Students who arrive late with a note will not have that late arrival counted for detention.
I will make the new arrangements for students leaving early and for arriving late on the app for your information.

TYs
TYs had a busy week with Toastmasters in for the first of seven sessions and with a trip to the Velodrome courtesy of Keela, thanks for getting us in there!

Girls Football
It was the girls first time playing together against Loreto. They played in very bad conditions and despite not winning on points, but really enjoyed themselves!

STEAM Meath
Our amazing Lego League Teams will compete against the other Meath schools in Navan on 19 February in the Robot Wars.  Their work is phenomenal and we will be displaying it on our upcoming Arts Evening in March. Best of luck to the students and teachers led by Joanne Dowling.

Host Families
A few language schools are interested in sourcing host families for visiting students who would like to attend Athboy CS next year.  While we don't get involved in the arrangements between host families and the language schools, I am happy to share their contact details if any of you are interested in hosting a visiting student.

Have a wonderful midterm break!

Regards,
Clare
