Parent/Guardian Update Friday 19 January 2024

Dear parents and guardians,

It's been a freezing week so thanks for doing your best to get your children/teens out to school this week.

Incoming First Years
We had over 100 parents/guardians and incoming students here last evening which was great to see on such a cold evening.  Emma Mooney will be the year head for the group so it was nice for families to meet Emma and Aoife O'Reilly, the SEN Coordinator, as well as myself and Tom.  Our current 1st Years were great little role models and the prefects were excellent too.  Lena and the PA helped out with teas.  Thanks to all involved.

Musical - The Adams Family
The PA are organising a raffle on the nights of the musical so if you do work for a company who might donate a little prize or you have an unopened Christmas gift or two lying around, please drop them into us!
Tickets are still on sale, please do come along.

2nd Year PTM
We had a 70% showing of parents/guardians on Tuesday evening.  We will be looking at  attendance by parents/guardians on these evenings as part of School Self Evaluation with a view to coming up with ways of increasing this percentage.  Any ideas you might have for how we might make parent teacher meetings more effective or more enjoyable experiences are very welcome.  Your engagement with us for events such as these is so important for the students and for us in order to support your children, so we will keep you informed about attendance rates.

Visit to Google
Heidi Donohoe Moloney & Laura Conroy (TY) visited Google on Tuesday and had a fantastic day working with schools around the country to deliver a safer internet day initiative here in the school.  Well done to them!

Staff Meeting
We have an extended staff meeting on Tuesday, classes will end at 1.40pm.  Buses will collect students early.  The reason for this is the launch of our new Learning Code (behaviour system) to staff after which it will be rolled out to 1st Years in a pilot programme in February.  We will also be doing work on our Ethos, our core values and need this time as a staff to do this important work.  Thanks to the parents who volunteered this week to meet me as part of a Positive Behaviour Team and also those who joined the Uniform Review Team.

Uniform Review
We have had 165 responses to our Parent Survey re the current uniform.  Here is the link if you have not done it as yet  Uniform survey.  The results of the review may see changes to the incoming 1st Year Uniform in September 2024.  The current 3rd Years and TYs will be survey as to whether they would like to have a slightly different uniform as senior cycle students but no family is under pressure to buy new items of uniform.

Soccer
Our first and second year girls soccer team played their second game of the year earlier this week with coaches Ruth Fitzgerald and Freddie Williams. The girls played extremely well but unfortunately the result didn't go their way. Their next game is against Eureka.

Basketball

Congratulations to our First Year Girls Basketball team who won their first game in the league against O’Carolan College today. The girls played brilliantly and will now face St. Ciaran’s Community College next week. Training will resume next Wednesday the 24th after school and is open to all first year girls who want to get involved. Well done girls and Shannon.

Camogie
Junior Camogie match away against Drogheda resulted in a very comprehensive win for our girls -  5 goals 10 points to 1 goal. Well done girls and coach Leanne Barrett.

Best of luck next week to Jacqui McGowanand the staff and students involved in our musical, can't wait to see it!!  Break a leg!

Have a lovely weekend
