The online world is increasingly important in our daily lives. We use the internet to connect with others via social media, for work, school or studies and for leisure activities and shopping, so we know how important it is to stay safe and well when we are online.

Today, Tuesday 7th February, is Safer Internet Day. To mark this important day in Holy Family Secondary School we have lots going on!Today in class, during the first period, all students participated in a lesson about respectful communication online.

Our inaugural HFSS Anti-Bullying Team organised a poster competition for 1st and 2nd year students on the theme of respectful communication. Well done to all the 1st and 2nd years who entered the competition. The winning posters were from Rosheen Rajesh (2B), Sarah Hanlon (1S), Summer Carroll (1B) and Emma Curran (1S).

In our 1st year DLG and 4th year Digital Skills classes, students will work on material on the themes of staying safe online this week in class. The 1st year students have been looking at false information, and the 4th years are making their own podcasts about the opportunities and risks associated with young people’s use of social media.

Holy Family Secondary School Parents Association

The Parents Association would like to thank everyone that helped make our Christmas Raffle a huge success yet again. Thanks to everyone that bought or sold tickets and donated prizes.

We would like once again to thank the following local business that very kindly donated prizes: Life Credit Union, Manguard, The Keadeen Hotel, Whitewater Shopping Centre, Kildare Village, The Herb Shop, Devtech, Farrell’s Book Shop, The Back-to-School Store, Pharmacy O’Regan, Casey’s Londis, The Man’s Shop, Kildare Farm Foods, McGreal’s Pharmacy, New Look Nails, Createprint at Cartridge House, Bergin’s Pharmacy.  Without this continued support the raffle wouldn’t be so successful each year.

A reminder that the school now has a permanent used clothes collection point if you are doing any clear outs before or after Christmas. Bags can be dropped off at anytime that the school is open.

There is also an unwanted loose LEGO collection fundraiser bin for the Jack and Jill Foundation.

Finally, we would like to wish the whole school community a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year.

From the PA Committee
