FRIDAY – CLOSURE OF CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK This week we have celebrated Catholic Schools Week and reflected on our school as a Place of Faith and Resilience. We have borne witness to the fact that there must be a connection between what we believe and what we do. Throughout the year we want our community to bear witness to the learning we share, the Word that we live by, the wisdom that we are searching for and the worship that gives expression to what we believe. We pray for everyone who builds our school community. May we continue to experience God’s blessings today and everyday. ‘God has not called me to be successful; God has called me to be faithful.’ - Mother Teresa ‘Faith gives you an inner strength and a sense of balance and perspective in life.’ – Gregory Peck

FRIDAY In a series of audience talks on Christian hope, Pope Francis gave extensive advice on how to remain full of hope. No matter ‘where God has planted you, hope. Always hope,’ he said, explaining: ‘Believe in the existence of the most noble and beautiful truths and trust that God, through the Holy Spirit, is ushering everything toward the good, toward Christ’s embrace … Believers are not alone in their faith. There are others who hope, too. ‘The world goes on thanks to the vision of many people who created an opening, who built bridges, who dreamed and believed, even when they heard words of derision around them.’ Hope brings many virtues with it – optimism, enthusiasm, courage, resilience, motivation. We can give this gift to others to help them through difficult times. It’s not always easy, but we can work on Hope, develop it, pray for it and show it in the way we relate to others. Hope can be a light to show us the way, the energy to keep that light burning, a pit stop where we can refresh ourselves. It does not demand repayment. As poet Emily Dickinson wrote of hope: ‘never, in extremity/ It asked a thing of me’. ‘I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope’ (Ps 130:5). ‘You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.’ – Michelle Obama

THURSDAY Christ Has No Body Now But Yours Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours. ― Teresa of Avila St John Henry Newman: God has Created Me to Do Him some Definite Service www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyBStFF-rdk

WEDNESDAY -GRANDPARENTS DAY Grandparents are a family’s greatest treasure, The founders of a loving legacy, the greatest storytellers, The keepers of traditions that linger on in cherished memory. Grandparents are the family’s strong foundation. Their very special love sets them apart. Through happiness and sorrow, through their special love and caring, Grandparents keep a family close at heart. (Author unknown) “The simplest toy, one which even the youngest child can operate, is called a grandparent.” – Sam Levenson “We should all have one person who knows how to bless us despite the evidence. Grandmother was that person to me.” – Phyllis Theroux “To a small child, the perfect granddad is unafraid of big dogs and fierce storms but absolutely terrified of the word ‘boo.’” – Robert Brault

TUESDAY Loving God, as we gather today, we thank you for your presence with us. Help us, our school community, to be people of hope, faith and resilience. May we become more and more like your son Jesus who, by his words and actions, showed your unconditional love for all people. May we learn to be like him, trusting in you and reaching out to those around us. May your Holy Spirit be the source of inspiration and wisdom as we journey together in faith, hope and love. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. ‘Have faith; the Lord will not abandon you … God is the light that illuminates the darkness, even if it does not dissolve it, and a spark of divine light is within each of us.’ – Pope Francis www.youtube.com/watch?v=XypgQoOBuBk
