PBC V ST MUNCHINS - MATCH REPORT from Sebastian O' Donoghue, 4th Year

PBC cruised to a 31-12 victory in their Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup quarter final clash against St Munchins in Musgrave Park.
Stirred on by a roaring crowd, Pres started at a breakneck speed, marching down the field within 5 minutes and scoring under the posts from short range, through Ben O’Connor, who converted his try.
Just minutes later Sean Condon dotted down in the corner after some slick attacking play and O’Connor extended the lead to 14-0 through an excellent conversion. At just the 10 minute mark, this game was threatening to become a hammering.
The game went scoreless for around 20 minutes until Condon was put through 1 on 1 on the wing from a Pres scrum and easily evaded his defender to whip the already loud support into a frenzy. From the ensuing restart a Munchin’s player was shown a yellow card for taking a man out in the air.
Pres went in to half-time 21-0 and were well worth their lead. The try-scoring didn’t stop either as just a minute after the start of the second half O’Connor released the opposite wing Adam Twomey into the corner to make it 26-0, taking full advantage of Munchins being a man down.
However, once restored to 15 men, Munchins began to slowly eat away at the large PBC lead, further helped by a yellow card against Pres for a late hit. After two Munchins tries the score stood at 26-12, and the previously frenzied crowd seemed to noticeably lull, fearing an improbable comeback.
But after Fionn Roussell barrelled over with around 10 minutes left in what proved to be the final score of the game, Pres put the contest out of reach and put to an end any miraculous comeback from Munchin’s spirited fight back.
This result sets up a tense, highly anticipated semi-final against CBC, a game in which both teams will be able to book their ticket to the final and get one step closer to the trophy.

Tom was a winner of both the Junior and Senior Cups with Pres during his time in the school. His family continued to represent the school through his own children and grandchildren. He was there with his family in the school hall only a few years ago presenting his grandson with his Senior Cup jersey.
Tom also had to most distinguished of rugby careers when leaving Pres going on to win Munster Senior Cup with Cork Con, representing Munster, Ireland and the B & I Lions and having the honour of captaining all of these teams. After finishing playing his skills and knowledge made him a successful coach of Munster and Ireland. It was another successful weekend for the rowing club on the Marina on Saturday at Shandon Head of the River.
The crew of Rex O'Sullivan, Eoghan Ahern, Andrew O'Leary, Sam Hernan and Jack Carroll picked up a win in the Junior 18 Four beating crews from around the country in a very competitive event.
The Junior 18 squad continued their strong performance with a third place finish out of a field of twelve crews in the Junior 18 Eight. This group continue to show their promise and are being rewarded for their long hours of training!
There were good rows for the Junior 15 and 16 squads in their respective categories and some more valuable racing experience was gained as the regatta season fast approaches.
Well done to all the athletes and coaches involved!
