Ben O’Connor ran the show in the epic clash of the two Cork giants on Thursday afternoon. The two schools, Pres and Christian’s fought ferociously, trading blow for blow and try for try. Pres gained an early lead in the first half when Fionn Roussel dotted down a well worked try which O’Connor swiftly converted. PBC’s glee was promptly ruined by a CBC try from Jack Casey just before the half time whistle, which was converted by Daire Burke. CBC dominated after kick off with a try from Ben lynch, who jumped over Sean Condon and snatched the ball from a cross-field kick, but luckily for Pres, Burke just hit the conversion narrowly wide. This didn’t knock Burke’s confidence, with him bagging himself a well worked try which he this time converted. The score was now 19-7 to CBC. The gloom started to settle on the PBC fans, but nonetheless, the cheerleaders kept the faith and rallied the crowd. The chants and hopes grew which helped bring the PBC team back from the brink of defeat. With only ten minutes to go, Sean Condon caught a spinning pass and leapt over the try line in feline fashion. This conversion was right next to the touchline but this didn’t stop heroic O’Connor who beat the fierce wind to score the two points. Pres now had a spring in their step and they looked hungry for this vital last try with the magnificent Jacob Sheahan barrelling through the Christian’s defence and Danny Sheahan causing havoc at the breakdown. It was only fit though, that the elegant Ben o Connor was the one who crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s with a diving try and once again a fabulous conversion. PBC will be looking for their 31st title on St Patrick’s Eve where they will be facing either Bandon Grammar or Crescent in a much anticipated final.
Munster Schools Swimming Championship 2022

2022 has proved to be another momentous year for Swimming in PBC. This would not be possible without the help of an extremely supportive coach in Dolphin Swimming Club (Mick Mc Cormack). Sunday 6th February saw a group of 12 swimmers depart for the UL Arena to take part in the Munster Schools swimming championship 2022, in the early hours (5:30 am). This is nothing unusual for these swimmers, as many of them are in the pool by 6:00 am, five to six morning a week training in Competitive Squads. We had seasoned swimmers Paul Higgins, David Carroll, Jude Malley, and Evan McArdle leading the way to the medal podium. This year saw a group of incredibly talented younger swimmers emerge. The school won two medals for the junior freestyle and individual medley relays. The intermediate relay team swam an extremely competitive race and the senior relay team also won two medals for the freestyle and individual medley relays. Individual medals included two medals for Paul Higgins, one each for David Carroll, David O' Leary and Louis Flynn. Paul Higgins (6th Year) and David O' Leary (1st Year), will now represent the school and Munster in the upcoming All Ireland Swimming Championship. Well done to all swimmers! Over all this was an extraordinarily successful gala with all competitors gaining Personal bests. A special thanks goes to Mr. Liam Lynch for accompanying the boys to the gala. The squad included: Louis Dineen, Colman Shanley, Donnacha Leane, David O’ Leary, Dylan Lynch, Jack Bugler, Aidan McGrath, Louis Flynn, Jude Malley, Evan McArdle, David Carroll and Paul Higgins.

Trailing 1-0 with 20 minutes to go, Jerry Murphy equalised for Pres with a swerving thunderbolt from outside the box and Charlie Cummins secured the victory with an exquisite right-footed chip on the edge of the penalty area with 5 minutes remaining. Well done lads,- tremendous resolve, mental toughness and no little skill shown today.
PBC V ST MUNCHINS - MATCH REPORT from Sebastian O' Donoghue, 4th Year

PBC cruised to a 31-12 victory in their Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup quarter final clash against St Munchins in Musgrave Park. Stirred on by a roaring crowd, Pres started at a breakneck speed, marching down the field within 5 minutes and scoring under the posts from short range, through Ben O’Connor, who converted his try. Just minutes later Sean Condon dotted down in the corner after some slick attacking play and O’Connor extended the lead to 14-0 through an excellent conversion. At just the 10 minute mark, this game was threatening to become a hammering. The game went scoreless for around 20 minutes until Condon was put through 1 on 1 on the wing from a Pres scrum and easily evaded his defender to whip the already loud support into a frenzy. From the ensuing restart a Munchin’s player was shown a yellow card for taking a man out in the air. Pres went in to half-time 21-0 and were well worth their lead. The try-scoring didn’t stop either as just a minute after the start of the second half O’Connor released the opposite wing Adam Twomey into the corner to make it 26-0, taking full advantage of Munchins being a man down. However, once restored to 15 men, Munchins began to slowly eat away at the large PBC lead, further helped by a yellow card against Pres for a late hit. After two Munchins tries the score stood at 26-12, and the previously frenzied crowd seemed to noticeably lull, fearing an improbable comeback. But after Fionn Roussell barrelled over with around 10 minutes left in what proved to be the final score of the game, Pres put the contest out of reach and put to an end any miraculous comeback from Munchin’s spirited fight back. This result sets up a tense, highly anticipated semi-final against CBC, a game in which both teams will be able to book their ticket to the final and get one step closer to the trophy.

To all of the Pres Community, On behalf of the Board of Management, staff and pupils we want to take this opportunity to extend our condolences to the Kiernan family on the passing of Tom Kiernan. A past pupil of such distinction that his legacy of excellence continues to be acknowledged by our pupils everyday as they pass into school passing the Honours Board and the B & I Lions archive. Tom was a winner of both the Junior and Senior Cups with Pres during his time in the school. His family continued to represent the school through his own children and grandchildren. He was there with his family in the school hall only a few years ago presenting his grandson with his Senior Cup jersey. Tom also had to most distinguished of rugby careers when leaving Pres going on to win Munster Senior Cup with Cork Con, representing Munster, Ireland and the B & I Lions and having the honour of captaining all of these teams. After finishing playing his skills and knowledge made him a successful coach of Munster and Ireland. In terms of modern professional rugby he was at the centre of developing the professional structures that exist today. As a community we thank Tom for all of the memories that he has given the Pres community both at home and abroad. David Barry Secretary Board of Management
