The Rowing Ireland National Championships took place at the National Rowing Centre, Inniscarra this past weekend and our junior 18 squad created some Pres rowing history! The crew of Eoghan Aherne, Ben Mullane, Rex O'Sullivan, Andrew O'Leary, Sam Hernan, Adam Hartley, Darragh Buckley, Leo Porion and cox, Noah Giltinan finished third in the Men's Junior 18 Eight final, the first ever podium finish for the club in this highly competitive event.
The crew qualified comfortably from their heat to progress to the final where they faced some stiff competition from boats across the country. Pres came home in the bronze medal position ahead of Methodist College, Belfast and Castleconnell BC, Limerick. St. Joseph's College, Galway and Enniskillen Royal BC, two clubs who have traditionally dominated this event, finished first and second respectively.
This is an outstanding result for Pres in a race which showcases the best of Irish rowing talent in the Junior 18 category. What makes it even more impressive is that each member of the boat is underage again next season. Well done to the entire crew, the wider squad and all the coaches for finishing off what has been such a successful season with this fantastic result on the biggest stage.
Eoghan Aherne, Andrew O'Leary, Rex O'Sullivan, Ben Mullane and Noah Giltinan also managed to reach the final of the Men's Junior 18 Four where they finished 5th in the country, while the B Four of Darragh Buckley, Adam Hartley, Sam Hernan, Leo Porion and Jack Carroll only narrowly missed out on qualification for the final in the same event.
Earlier in the weekend, the Men's Junior 16 Quad of Darrach Fanning, Brian O'Leary, John Neville, Cian Timoney and Jack Carroll had a strong row in their event which bodes well for next season for the young crew.
The rowers now take a well earned break until September, apart from Andrew O'Leary and Noah Giltinan who travel to Spain on August 5th to represent Ireland at the Coupe de le Jeunesse as part of the Men's Coxed Four crew. We again wish them the very best of luck.

Cork Cup Final – Senior Soccer (U19)
Match Report – PBC 4 VS Douglas Community School 2
The Seniors faced Douglas Community School (DCS) yesterday in this year’s Cork Cup Final in College Corinthians. On their way to the Final PBC beat Crosshaven and Passage, while DCS got the better of Rochestown College in their Semi-Final.
The opening quarter was rather cagey as both teams got to grips with the game and each other. Any attempt during this period came from distance but both goalkeepers dealt with them comfortably. The outlook of the game changed around the half hour mark. Eddie Roche Kenneally calmly quelled a dangerous DCS attack and his forward pass found Aidan Barry who then found Zach Dunne wide on the left wing, he went on a mazy run towards the penalty area before laying it off to Aidan Barry who made no mistake with his precise shot.
PBC were on the up and thought they had a second two minutes later through Zach Dunne but it was to be ruled out for offside. The second wasn’t too far away, however. Ben Dalton found Luke O’Donnell on the right wing, he set himself and delivered a delicious cross which was met by the on rushing Ben O’Connor who finished well.
PBC’s impressive display earned them a two goal lead at half-time.
The lead was extended shortly after the break. A corner from the left was headed against the DCS post but Jake Lynch was on hand to finish from close range. PBC were now in full control.
DCS, to their credit, battled hard and eventually got their just reward. They fired home two goals in quick succession. The score line now read PBC 3 – 2 DCS.
Thankfully, PBC kicked back into gear, through more great link up play between Aidan Barry and Zach Dunne. Dunne, a constant threat, raced down the left again and played a well-measured through ball to Barry who just got his foot to the ball before being taken down by the on rushing DCS keeper. Barry dusted himself down and slotted the penalty home. 4-2 to PBC with just over ten minutes to play. DCS tried desperately to get back into the game by were halted by the PBC rear-guard, which consisted of Alex McAllen (GK), Niall Lynch, Matthew Clarkson, Tom Kelly and Eddie Roche Kenneally.
All in all, it was a much deserved victory for PBC!
Congratulations to all involved and a big thank you to Mr. A. Twomey and Mr. Mullarkey for all of their hard work.

The PBC Music Society put together a very impressive Concert last week for their classmates, with the help of teachers Mr. Dave O' Riordan, Ms. Mary O' Driscoll and Ms. Nora Walsh. The music was amazing but it was recorded less than professionally (!!), we promise to improve here!! However, Mr. Lehane bravely put together "bits" recorded on our phones on the link below. The recording is not perfect, but it will give you a glimpse of what our boys presented on the day!! Well done to all involved!!

Well done to all fourth year students who created projects for the Young Economist of the Year (YEOTY) competition. Our students worked very hard over the last few months formulating their research question for their projects. This year’s theme focused on the role of economics in a sustainable world.
Congratulations to Adam Ryan and Louis Flynn who were awarded a gold medal for their YEOTY entry. Their research project involved a detailed investigation into the positive and negative impacts of migration on the Irish economy.
Adam and Louis were invited to the YEOTY awards ceremony to exhibit their project. This took place in The O’Reilly Hall in UCD in April.
Congratulations to Sam O’Leary and Oscar Squires who were awarded a bronze medal for their YEOTY entry. Sam and Oscar researched how COVID-19 impacted the Earth.
Well done to all our budding Economists and their Teacher, Ms. Jane O' Malley!
