Along with Mental Health Week, this week also marks Climate Action Week! Recently our Green Schools Committee have begun displaying the Climate Pledges attached around the school and that we’d love for everyone to take a moment to notice, and hopefully make any small change to their own routine that in turn, could make a huge difference! Whether it’s cutting down on plastic packaging for lunches, getting out of the car early and walking to school, or even just finishing your lunch to reduce food waste, every little helps! Be sure to take some time for yourself outside too, and see what a world of difference even a small walk can make! We’re also taking suggestions as to how we as a school can do better, so if you’ve got an idea, be sure to let us know!

T.Y. Art Students visited the National Sculpture Factory on Albert Road today, where they were given a tour of this historical building once the maintenance depot for the Cork Trams. Converted to the National Sculpture Factory in the 1970's this facility provides artists with studio space, technical advice and machinery to create small and large scale pieces for private and public commissions. The students viewed some work in progress and got a private tour and learned about this great facility past and present. Thanks to our tour guide Dominique the head technician who was very informative and generous with his time.

BBC News visits PBC
On the 12th of September, 6th Year History students welcomed past pupil and BBC Special Correspondent Fergal Keane into their classroom. The filming of a visit to Pres was being included in a special segment Mr. Keane and his crew were making for the BBC 1 News. When the Queen made her historic visit to Ireland in 2011, she was received very warmly in Cork and on her passing, the BBC wanted to report on attitudes to her passing and how people viewed her role in Anglo-Irish relations.
While we were given very short notice about the visit, it was very exciting to think that we might be on the BBC News! Mr. Caleb Sheehan and Ms. Eleanor Walsh came to our rescue and we would like to extend our thanks to them both for their encouragement, support and condensed History lesson which helped us secure our time in the limelight! We had a very interesting questions and answers session with Mr. Keane and we thank him for his interesting and insightful questions which got us all thinking like true historians.
A special note of congratulations to Mark O’Connell and Cameron Lee whose words were captured in the segment on the news as well as a class shot of us all working hard. Mark and Cameron should be very proud of their composed and mature performance.
As well as thanking Mr. Sheehan and Ms. E.Walsh, we would also like to thank Ms. N. Walsh for capturing pictures of the visit and Mr. J. Kavanagh for being on standby to lend a hand.
