Congratulations to our three students who made the Munster Regional Squad Swimming Team. Aidan Mc Grath 4A, Donnacha Leane 2A and David O’Leary 2B are our swimmers whose talents have been recognised by the Munster Swim Team. Pres has the biggest representation on the team which is a huge achievement and something which the college is very proud of. The Munster Regional Squad Swimming Team is an elite squad selected with the view of helping young swimmers achieve National, International and Olympic success. These swimmers put in between 14 and 16 hours of club swimming each week plus gym work, all this on top of to their school work! Regional training takes place in Limerick and is in addition to their club swimming! A huge amount of commitment and dedication is required and our three swimmers should be very proud of their achievements to date. Aidan and Donnacha train with Mick Mc Cormack (former teacher at PBC) at Dolphin and David trains at Sundays Well. Our swimmers can be seen in the photo included: Aidan (Back Row: 5th from Left), Donnacha (Front Row: 1st on the Right), David (Back Row: 3rd from Left).

The Rowing Ireland National Championships took place at the National Rowing Centre, Inniscarra this past weekend and our junior 18 squad created some Pres rowing history! The crew of Eoghan Aherne, Ben Mullane, Rex O'Sullivan, Andrew O'Leary, Sam Hernan, Adam Hartley, Darragh Buckley, Leo Porion and cox, Noah Giltinan finished third in the Men's Junior 18 Eight final, the first ever podium finish for the club in this highly competitive event. The crew qualified comfortably from their heat to progress to the final where they faced some stiff competition from boats across the country. Pres came home in the bronze medal position ahead of Methodist College, Belfast and Castleconnell BC, Limerick. St. Joseph's College, Galway and Enniskillen Royal BC, two clubs who have traditionally dominated this event, finished first and second respectively. This is an outstanding result for Pres in a race which showcases the best of Irish rowing talent in the Junior 18 category. What makes it even more impressive is that each member of the boat is underage again next season. Well done to the entire crew, the wider squad and all the coaches for finishing off what has been such a successful season with this fantastic result on the biggest stage. Eoghan Aherne, Andrew O'Leary, Rex O'Sullivan, Ben Mullane and Noah Giltinan also managed to reach the final of the Men's Junior 18 Four where they finished 5th in the country, while the B Four of Darragh Buckley, Adam Hartley, Sam Hernan, Leo Porion and Jack Carroll only narrowly missed out on qualification for the final in the same event. Earlier in the weekend, the Men's Junior 16 Quad of Darrach Fanning, Brian O'Leary, John Neville, Cian Timoney and Jack Carroll had a strong row in their event which bodes well for next season for the young crew. The rowers now take a well earned break until September, apart from Andrew O'Leary and Noah Giltinan who travel to Spain on August 5th to represent Ireland at the Coupe de le Jeunesse as part of the Men's Coxed Four crew. We again wish them the very best of luck.
