6th year art classes visited the Freud Project at The Irish Museum of Modern Art after a visit to the National College of Art & Design (NCAD)open day in Dublin today. The NCAD open day gives students interested in studying at at 3rd level an insight into the course requirements, in particular the art portfolio which students generally begin to compile the year after the Leaving certificate. Thank you to the boys art teacher, Ms Williams for organising this day out!
Holiday World Show Young Travel Writer of the Year

In advance of the Holiday World Show Dublin, which takes place Friday 24th through to Sunday 26th January 2020, Secondary School Students throughout the country are invited to enter the Holiday World Show Young Travel Writer of the Year Competition. The Holiday World Show would like students to write about their favourite holiday destination or travel experience. The competition is open to Transition Year, 4th Year, 5th Year and 6th Year Students. To enter the competition, please email writings (no more that 500 words) before Tuesday 17th December 2019 to: holidayworld@limelight.ie Entries must be labelled with the following: · Student Name · Class · Teacher’s Name · Age · School · School Address · Contact No. · Contact Email The overall winner will have their piece of writing printed in the Holiday World Show Supplement which will appear in the Sunday Independent on Sunday, 19th January. They will also receive a €100 One4All voucher. Runners up will receive family passes to Heritage Island attractions. All entrants will also receive FREE Family Passes to the Holiday World Show Dublin 2020. The Holiday World Show Dublin takes place at the RDS Simmonscourt from 24th to 26th January 2020. For three days the Holiday World Show will transform the RDS Simmonscourt into a hub of exotic, vibrant, multi-cultural activity; from the Americas to Asia, Europe to Africa, visitors can meet travel professionals from all over the world. Any Transition Year students who have an interest in pursuing engineering are encouraged to apply for the STEPS Engineering Your Future Programme 2020. The nearest Engineering Your Future Programme to our school will be in IT Carlow. The full list of programmes and dates are available here: www.steps.ie/eyf.aspx Applications are now open at this link: steps.smapply.io/prog/2020_engineering_your_future_-_transition_year_programme/ The deadline for applications to be completed is Wednesday 11th December 2020. Steps will be in contact with Ms O’Connell with successful candidates by the end of January 2020. What is Engineering Your Future? STEPS Engineering Your Future (STEPS EYF) is designed to inspire Transition Year students to study engineering. STEPS EYF is an engineering experience programme that gives Transition Year students a hands-on, fun and practical insight into engineering at third-level and as a career. During the programme, which is run over three to five days, students attend interactive talks and presentations; get hands-on experience with group-based activities; visit local industry and meet engineers at various stages in their careers. STEPS EYF is coordinated by the Engineers Ireland STEPS programme and is hosted by third level institutes and industry around Ireland. Entering its 8th year, the annual Engineers Ireland Transition Year initiative has grown from five programmes in 2013 to 18 programmes in 2020 and has engaged over 1,700 students.
