Throughout the 2019/2020 school year, the CBS will be participating in the Wellread National Award. This literacy initiative aims to promote reading for enjoyment throughout the whole school community. This includes students, teachers, staff, parents, and the wider community. It also highlights the importance of creating a culture of reading within the school. As part of our participation in this award, there will be various exciting activities and events held throughout the remainder of the school year, beginning with literacy week on December 9th-13th. Further information on literacy week will be announced closer the time. Finally, as this award promotes on-going reading for enjoyment, we encourage students to carry a book in their bags at all times. More information to follow!....

The third and final day of the 3 County League saw the CBS athletes once more battling it out over cross country. Over the past three days of the competition the teams have through hard work and determination pushed their way into the medal positions with our Inter Boys (Billy Ramsbottom, Anthony Idris, Karl Mulligan and Cathtal Molloy) collecting medals. This is a fantastic result for the school competing against some of the top schools in Ireland. Well done to all the athletes who took part!

Ms Buckley’s TY A religion class went out to the old Extra Vison last Thursday where we packed shoe boxes into Delivery boxes for Team Hope .We started packing at 10 am. Some of the class packed the shoe boxes into large boxes to be sent away. the Christmas Shoebox Appeal sends thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes to children in Africa and Eastern Europe. The children who receive your shoeboxes are affected by poverty in different ways. Many come from families with very little income, others live on the margins of society or in areas affected by conflict. Shoeboxes are given based on need alone and bring joy and excitement to children living in often very difficult situations. There was 6 six categories , ages 2-4 boys , ages 2-4 girls ,ages 5-9 boys ,ages 5-9 girls , ages 10-14 boys , ages 10-14 girls . The rest of the class checked shoeboxes for unsafe things and made sure each had one of the 4 w‘s - something to write, wear, wash with and a wow - a toy or something nice, was in each of the boxes. At 12 pm we finished up and thanked the team hope organisers and got a group picture as TYA. It was enjoyable as we knew that we were helping under privileged children in Eastern Europe and Africa . We are looking forward to charity work throughout the year and hopefully it will as satisfying as helping the Team Hope charity. Thank you to all who contributed to this year’s shoebox appeal!
