Archived : 12 Jan 2020, 12:00 AM
St Mary’s CBS seeks to combine academic excellence, all-round character development and personal attention to each student with a close working relationship between teachers and parents. This scholarship aims to facilitate the holistic development of our students by rewarding students who drive to achieve academic excellence in conjunction with their sporting careers.
Scholarships are now being offered for students commencing First year in September 2020. The scholarships may cover the cost of an iPad, books, uniform and lunch deal at the school. These scholarships will continue for the duration of the student’s first academic year in the CBS. While the scholarships will be awarded under specific category headings, academic excellence will be a consideration in all scholarship awards. A scholarship may be awarded under any category heading, but there is no commitment to award scholarships under each heading. The categories are:
students of high academic ability
students with exceptional sports skills
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of
a completed application form
an assessment of ability at sports
an appropriate academic test
The parents of those receiving scholarships are expected to make a commitment to participate fully in the school community.
For full details and application forms see school app and website www.portlaoisecbs.com.
The closing date for 2020/2021 applications is February 2020

TYA SVP conference:

This year, all the students in our class will be working very closely with St Vincent De Paul. We have set up a conference which meets in school each week. We wish to learn about social justice issues and make a positive contribution to our local community.
The class elected a committee to coordinate, plan and organise activities which is comprised of the following:
Chairperson: Daniel Daly
Vice chairperson: Bobo Lawal
Secretary: Mark Bracken
Treasurer and finance committee: Ben Lalor, Aaron Lynn Brennan and John Ging
PRO: Kanya Tshula and TJ Delaney
Photographer: Darragh Savage
So far we the class has bag packed for SVP portlaoise branch and volunteered to help Teamhope process shoeboxes later in the week to be sent to children all around the world. They also plan on spending time with people in a local nursing home, peer teaching our first year classes about the work of SVP amongst other projects. We will then present our work to other schools in April and meet other SVP conferences.
We would like to thank Debbie from SVP and Ms O’Neill for their guidance and help and look forward to your support over the next year.
Thanks,
the SVP committee.
