We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hardwork our Meitheal leaders have put into this first term in school. On Friday the 13th of September they planned a ‘Friday Fun day’ down at the leisure centre with lots of team bonding activities to help the first years get to know their new classmates. They represented our school on open night showcasing all our school as to offer, as well as doing the teas, coffees and sign ins on both 6th&3rd year parent teacher meetings. They have been assisting all the first year religion teachers with the first year retreats since the start of October. This week they organised a successful Halloween party on Thursday afternoon for our first years with games, food and even did a live performance! And finally yesterday for the class of the term they entertained the entire school community by holding the teachers to a 9-9 draw after a very competitive 60minutes of soccer. The lads-Thomás, Dylan, Jordan, Séan, William, Niall, Joe, Ali, James and Adam have managed all of the above activities all while studying for their Leaving Certificate. Time for the lads to take a well deserved break and catch up on study during this midterm break! Big thanks once again to the lads and their co-ordinator Ms D. Carroll.

Our U16 boys travelled to Nass Rugby club today to play St Kevin's Dunlavin in the second game of their campaign. In what was a miserably wet and cold day the Portlaoise boys took to the challenge strongly. They pinned Dunlavin into their own half for all the first half and reaped the reward with our first try coming from Sean Downey. The half time break brought a well deserved chance for both teams to catch their breath after a very physical first half. The second half started very similar to the first with Portlaoise piling on the pressure from the start. We had to work hard to secure our second try but it came from a well worked move between Jake lee Kelly and Dan Harty with Dan crashing over for the score. A magnificent break from Sean Downey saw him burst through the Dunlavin defence for our third try. Dunlavin weren't dine yet and as Portlaoise changed numerous personnel they broke the strong Portlaoise defence to score a try in the final minutes. Final score St. Marys CBS Portlaoise 17 -- St Kevin's Dunlavin 5 Men of the match Ivan Okonkwo Nathan Duffy
